Caught my first fish on this vessel during the maiden voyage. Super happy with this beast. The vessel is on the heavy side but its fast! Anyone else with a kayak want to race?

My research on fishing kayaks over the last year seemed to point towards the old towns as some of the faster kayaks.

I have a new Hobie compass sitting in the shop waiting to go on its first trip this set off. Still bare bones and needs to be rigged up. It’s not supposed to be a race car but definitely not a Ford lol

Maybe once I have figured out my new toy a bit I will take you up on a race just for humor. Hope to try out a kayak tournament or two this summer so we may cross paths either way

Nice kayak you got there

Facebook is for the social side but you don't need it to actually sign up to the tournament and compete. Although, it will be the best place to find all the information.

To compete, you can register through Anglers Atlas here:

I'm one of the main organizers, ask me anything!

I have never had much luck with them myself so maybe I am just odd lol

I don’t even carry rapalas trout fishing anymore

I like them for trolling from the canoe cause they wont twist your line, and have caught my share of fish on them, but by no means do I consider them a hot lure, or even a staple.

Basically, if I'm paddling from one point on the lake to another I will often be dragging a Rapala. For pike its a spinner bait, which is even more trouble free when your main concern is going somewhere but you want to keep a hook in the water.

Everyone will have their own experiences but I wouldn't be without them on some of the trout lakes I frequent if I'm not fly flailing. Especially getting into the evening. When the minnows start surfacing and freaking out it's a good time to start "matching the hatch" :).

I find everyone has their own go to list and it can vary a lot. I have seen big variations from region to region to target the same species feeding on the same forage too. Often these lures work in general but are harder to find in the regions they are not popular

I have developed my own list of go to’s that get me results. The rapalas do work for trout but there popularity varies depending where you go.

In the end if you are catching fish keep at it

I tested out my new hobie and I am impressed with its capabilities. I don’t think I would beat you in a race partly do to my legs not being used to it lol. There is definitely some neat things you can do with the Hobie drive

Not a race - but if you're up to a 'tug-of-war' - my Hobie PA is up for a wager!

My two paddle blades are always in the water - pushing, not flailing through the air 1/2 the time! :)

That's what muddlers are for. I dont think I can cast that big Rapala with my 5 wt. The 8 wt spey might chuck it with the right tip.

Crank baits for trout? Shudder!! Why don't you just shoot them?

Barbarians...all of you.

Tight Lines folks.
