So I hastily booked a site at Moose lake for May long weekend before realizing that the lake was closed during that time. Is there anything close to Moose that a guy should check out (other than Cold).

Definitely lots of options.
If you have a large boat you'll only get on about half of those though.... and Muriel has no fish.

Interesting... I know the water level of Muriel dropped dramatically... but no fish whatsoever? Is there a story behind that?

There could be 1 or 2 fish at Muriel but really doubtful. Hasn't been any kind of decent water in there for years.

Many lakes within close proximity to hwy 28 east of Bonnyville have low water levels due to many factors however the largest factor being rural wells usage depleting the aquifers. Lake levels are dropping to replenish aquifer. Probably a dozen lakes with this issue Muriel being one of them.
