Hello All,

Heading with the boy to Cold Lake for a few hours today. We are planning on launching in town. We have never fished for Lake trout before and as such have no downriggers and will likely be jigging. Any tips would be greatly appreciated as my boy really wants to catch a laker.

Thanks,

Chris

find a drop off at about 80 feet , pound the lure on the bottom then reel up fast about 10 and repeat if no bite. good luck enjoy.

Use the search engine and type in cold lake fishing there is tons of information provided there.

Good luck

As mentioned above 70-80 ft. Don't waist time fishing an area if your not marking anything and don't be afraid to jump around until you find it! Lots of great info in this forum and guys who have made some great videos to explain all this stuff

Don’t be afraid to use something like a Luhr Jensen Pink Lady with a trolling spoon (Northern King or Luhr Jensen Coyote) behind it instead of using a downrigger. I do this with my sonar running until I start to mark a lot of fish and then I stop to jig. You’ll pick up a few fish with the spoons while you are looking for bigger groups of fish.

Weavster is right, there are a lot of good video links here where guys explain what they are doing. 58thecat is also correct that there have been a lot of posts here around what works as well.

Was not fun out there when the storm hit . Fishing was good for 3 hrs then it rained and blew hard . We stayed in a bay for 3 hrs then drove out when the wind and rain stopped

I got caught out on Ethel lake in the yak....30 minute paddle straight into the two foot waves....was standing still during some of the gusts....thought it was fishable slight breeze and just rain but then all hell broke loose...good workout though:)

Did you try to launch at English bay and stay within 100 yards of that shore line?
Might be worth looking at.
