Red hooks replacing SJW?

Just wondering if anyone has had success using small red hooks for San Juan worm presentations rather than tied flies and if it has worked for them? Definitely more cost effective.

A small to medium red octopus hook works will work but I prefer to use a wire worm. Just buy a small spool of red wire from a fly shop or the fishin hole and use some pliers to hold the hook then wrap the wire around it tight.

In my opinion, it works much better than a plain hook because the wire helps the hook get down deep. Very cheap and quick to make.
