Take the bus into Cabo and fish off the rock pier. Just watch out for pelicans and the seals!! Or the marina to the south of San Jose. Saw lots of local kids pulling cudas and different types of fish right of the pier walls and docks.

San Jose del Cabo

Right next to where the river flows into the Sea of Cortez I've seen guys having some luck from the beach. And a few locals are usually there, casting nets in the surf. Go down to the Holiday Inn Resort at the end of the road, and take the path along the north side through the service buildings.

Be sure to bring your camera, the river side & delta is a great spot for 'birding'. That's the big attraction there for me. (And the baby turtles that need some help in the morning getting out past the surf!)

- and, - that Holiday Inn is an inexpensive all-inclusive. An easy walk to the main down-town market square, and fishing out your door before breakfast. Food & entertainment is good. Get West-Jet to put it in a package for you, using their regular scheduled flights, and you can choose whatever length of stay you wish, and get a good package deal. (at least you could before covid)

what time of year are you going to be there? Cabo has awesome fishing. Fall time (august to november) it has phenomial bill fish including stripperd and blue marlin as well as sailfish and your typical mahi mahi and yellowfin tuna. Late spring into late summer (may to end of august) there is amazing inshore fishing (and off the beach) for stuff like Roosterfish. The winter is slower but there is always a few stripped marlin around as well as tuna and jack crevelle. While I still love off shore fishing, our typical vacation times dont usually coincide with the best off shore fishing so my wife and I usually rent a panga for half a day a couple times each trip and smash inshore fish like jack crevelle, which fight awesome and there is a ton more action than offshore.

It will be winter time but not sure yet as we are waiting to see what covid does and rules going and coming. BEL

There was a surf fishing guide that was pretty inexpensive when i was there 5 years ago. I think his name was wesley and he was pretty known in the area. It was well worth it in my opinion for the money.

Hopefully a quick google search pulls it up.

Good luck!

He's still very active. Look for him on FaceBook under Cabosurfcaster.

We are going to be in San Jose del Cabo for a week over Christmas and my adult daughters want to take me out fishing for my birthday. Of course that means I have to do the research and booking which I prefer to do anyway. Any recommendations are welcome , probably looking at a half day as I know their interest will fade after a few hours. Probably won't have a vehicle but can get us to the Cabo marina if needed. Would like to hear any positive or negative experiences regarding guides, boats and inshore vs offshore. PM if preferred. Thanks

That's should be a good time of year for billfish as well as other gamefish species. I was there in early January and booked a charter with Red Rum sportfishing out of Cabo San Lucas. It was honestly really affordable for what we got. I booked the "smallest" deapsea fishing boat I could get as there were 6 of us. The crew of two were excellent and clearly very experienced and put us on the fish almost immediately.

We went off Marlin Fishing and the bite was fantastic, we had 7 striped Marlin caught and released by 11am.

Definitely try get out on the water!

Red Rum was great for me, brought home an amazing amount of tuna.

We ended up finding a local captain at the San Jose marina. $500 US for three of us. On the water at 6:45 off at 1:30. Total catch of 3 Mahi-Mahi, spent an hour fishing for yellowfin tuna but got skunked. Highlight was the 2 adult and 1 calf humpbacks surfacing 50 ft from the boat as my daughter reeled in the biggest Mahi. Next time we will spend more as our budget price got us an older boat, dodgy galley and head and a captain and mate who knew very little english.

On the positive side, seas were calm, naps were had and my chef buddy was with us and prepared the fantastic fresh fish meal that evening.
