Hello, I’m going to be paddling the North Saskatchewan River from Rocky Mountain House next week, and am wondering what jig size and colours someone can recommend for targeting walleye. Thank you.

All depends the day. I had the best luck fishing the back eddies with a slip bobber setup. Small silver spoons like the acme castmaster have been working well

Black quarter ounce jig head with 3 inch black curly tails works for me. Cheap enough you dont mind losing a few to logs and weeds etc. now and then.

Between Rocky and Drayton there should be a few trout and rockies to be caught in the river too. Bounce the bottom with white flies for the rockies. Spinners, spoons and 2" or 3" rapalas (trout color) might get you a trout.

As for jig heads, use the smallest lead head possible and the rubbertail will swim and react better than just dropping to the bottom. A small leadhead jig without the rubbertail and just a minnow through the eyes is great. If you are using bigger minnows add a a small stinger hook to the minnow.

Downstream from Drayton there are some big pike too.

Just note ES2 is a bait ban https://albertaregulations.ca/fishingregs/ES2-Rivers.pdf

PP2 regs I noticed changed a lot since I last fished that stretch. https://albertaregulations.ca/fishingregs/PP2-Rivers.pdf

Should be a pretty float.
