I had an awesome day today, same lake I caught my record 32 pike in a few weeks ago. Wind was dead calm, sun was scorching, didnt have to work, so I went fishing. Started slow, took me at least 5 minutes to hook my first pike, best of the day actually, 7 pounds 5 ounces, on my uglystick junior with 8 pound fireline. almost the same length of the rod too. http://i787.photobucket.com/albums/yy156/rollinghillbilly/September%203%2009/DSCF7570.jpg
wind stayed down almost all day, I ended up moving around the lake a bit, caught fish all over, I ended up with a total of 28 pike for the day. Used the same cheapo red and white I caught 10 pike on last Saturday, finally lost it 7 fish later, for a total of 17 on a one dollar spoon. Only reason I lost it was the cheapo leader broke, my fault, I usually change them after 8 or 10 pike since they get curly. Put on a new one, got 21 more with it, not a lot of paint left but the pike didnt give a crap so it will be the first one I use tomorrow too. I believe that works out to less than a nickle a fish, dont think you can complain about that!!!! Besides catching fish, I also got to witness schools of minnows doing their bird impression when the pike hit them, as well as hammerhandles doing trout imitations jumping for bugs. And more than one full size pike clearing the water completely chasing the schools of minnows!
The highlight of my day I think, was when a 6 pound pike tried to take my spoon as I lifted it into the canoe, banging his head on the gunnel not more than a couple inches from my knee. His whole head was inside the canoe, closest Ive come to tipping it in a long time, and I am ashamed to say, a few deleted expletives crossed my lips at that moment, also had to perform an underwear check!!!!!!
And people wonder why I target these docile boring fish :D:D:D
