If it was Poseidon, he would be wielding a trident, not a sword. Can't tell from the photo, is that a winged helmet? If so, it's likely Perseus.
If not a winged helmet, it could be Jason of Argonaut fame?

Looks like the 1955 Ford Fairlane ornament.
Plymouths of the same era had a similar hood ornament, but the leading edge of the wings was noticeably thicker and had a slightly different shape.

Not Poseidon as he's always been depicted as an older mythological figure, usually with a trident in hand and always with a huge gnarly beard.

It's not Perseus. The figurine you have has a nautical themed base with anchor, a ship's wheel & waves. Perseus has always been depicted as holding up the head of Medusa in his left hand and his sword in right hand at waist level. He's really never been depicted in statue or pictograph form with any type of nautical theme/base. Cellini's statue of Perseus standing next to the Uffizi Gallery in the Piazza della Signoria in Florence is the most famous.

I think your figurine may just be a statue made for tourists. It appears to be made of pot metal, not brass. You never found any markings on it?

I think "urban rednek" hit the nail on the head, it is a '56 Ford Fairlane hood ornament.

The '56 Plymouth Fury Belvedere had a very similar design but it had a shorter, almost bow/boat shaped nose, the leading edge of the wings weren't stepped back and they were rolled down at the wing tips.

It was found on a pile of scrap iron on my BILs farm in Tisdale Saskatchewan.

I saw one similar to it before in a blacksmith shop but this one is much taller and may have had a different application.

The item under the tire is kinda cool too. It's a grill for a old tractor.
I think maybe a Massey but not sure.

All I'm sure of it's not for a McCormick, they had narrow bars and slots.

That was my guess but it could be another similar application.

The one I saw at the blacksmith shop had a shorter stand as I mentioned so I wonder if this one might have been used for melting iron for casting rather then for hot forging metal.

The reason I think that is this one would have necessitated the forge be at an awkward height.

I am no expert, but just about every meteorite I saw in museums had some kind of signs of melting taking place.

Also, absolute majority of meteorites contain iron, so there should be at least weak magnetic attraction.

No expert though, lol.

The U of A in Edmonton has a nice geology specimen display/museum. When I took a rock there a couple years ago the curator seemed quite knowledgeable. A great collection to view too. Would be a good place to start. Because U of A is in remote learning mode it might be hard to find geo. profs on campus.

Another place to call would be the Alberta Geological Survey. The geologists on staff would be really good to talk to also. I took some stones to them once and they were able to put the stones in a spectro ? machine for free and tell exactly what the composition of the stones were. Their website is pretty interesting too. The AGS's interactive apps and maps are quite revealing.

But that ore had a silvery look to it, and no blue. To me the blue suggests copper.

;)Possibly, it's from before my time. My dad had one when I was a kid. It works like a caliper. The center strip slides left or right to chose the numbers in the equation, then the sight glass on the end has a thin line that you can slide from left or right. When the thin line covers all of the numbers in the equation, it shows your answer.

Try teaching a kid these days who can't read a clock how to use it [emoji28]

Is that a carbide lamp like the old coalminers wore on their helmets? Or some kind of vehicle headlight?
I assume a reflector would mount on the channel on the front.

I don't know anything about either, thats just where my brain went to when I saw it.

I am pretty sure that is a carbide lamp , missing the reflector that would have slid over the two little brackets on the top.

I have a similar one that has a reflector encased in a glass lens that was a bicycle light

Here is my odd item , not really sure what this is.
Someone suggested it is for holding a line spool for spooling line onto a fishing reel , which seems a bit over the top. It's made of Cast iron and stands about a foot tall when clamped to the table.

That would be a very educated guess, could be used for fishing line spools or much larger spools in order to keep the material from kinking, i set up a spike or nail on my bench vice to load my monofilament unto my fishing reels, same thing only cruder.:)

That would be my guess as well, now that you pointed out. So the hinged pieces at the back were for angling the light up and down?

After the slide rule and before the calculator was the Curta "math grenade" my Dad used one for surveying in the 50's he still has it, a collectable these days.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Curta

So your dad was a surveyor?Very cool the older guys had to know how to position using the stars with their transits, now days its all done by GPS,i have a few of the old time transits. People still use slide rules to measure the cubic meters of concrete in a foundation and such, and perhaps other things as well.

I helped him a few times doing star shots, I would hold a flash light over known point with a plumb bob similar to the one you posted.
Dad would look up in the ephemeris book an exact time a star would be in position, the transit would be setup over another known point after taking an angle up to the star he would triangulate his position.

Much more difficult than pushing a button on a GPS these days

Thats a realy nice (head lamp)as JB stated, i believe ive seen one before but it must have been a long time ago,if its a lamp then it must have burned coal oil or something, and it would have been very dangerous working in underground coal mines, like the coal mine in Bell Island NFLD,which ran 27 miles under the Atlantic ocean. Its all filled with water now,my great grandfather was a miner there. Theres a statue of him there now unless someone ripped it down because they were offended somehow.

When I was a young fellow, the local blacksmith had an acetylene generator and I recall he had large bags of white powder.
He also had a pump engine (or two) with roughly 3 inch belts to turn pulleys, hooked to shafts, to operate stuff. For example, this operated a "hammer" that went up and down many times per minute and was used to reshape plow shares (that he had heated in a forge).
Health and Safety would currently never allow such a set-up, as there were no belt guards or other safety measures in place.

I knew of a company in the 80s that ran a big sawmill like this,it was scary going in there with huge belts and pulleys turning everywhere, they had to shut it down when some kid had gone in there and lost an arm.

I've had this sitting on the shelf in my office for 15 years or more and have no idea what it is. Seems like the collective mind is on a run here, hoping someone knows this item.

The only thing I can think is a nut cracker??

they used to know as Flatfish lures, with spreaders. Pike and bass killers.

I have had one for slots and another for Phillips screws in my box for about 35 or 40 years, and I actually got the first one for doing points!:)
Absolute life saver for us ham fisted , fumbled fingered louts!:sHa_shakeshout:

I also have the pair. Great for installing screws in tight recessed areas.

For use with the nutcracker at -40 C or a real early version of a hair curling iron?

One more from me, not that odd per say but it's pretty neat! A great big spoon with massive treble hook.

I picked it up at a garage sale, apparently the gentleman had made it many years ago, very well made - especially the hook. There was also a 5 of diamonds, but the widow wanted to keep that one. It's a great piece and conversation starter proudly hanging in my garage.

You got to have big tackle to catch the big fish lol. All jokes aside there are fish that would hit that lure some of them big Northern pike would definetly go for that, problem is what to use for line and rod? Tuna Gear?

I have heard people say that it was used for twirling mustaches. Theres a few guys on here with the big handle bar mustaches that probably used something like this:sHa_sarcasticlol::sHa_sarcasticlol:

Magneto I believe. Used instead of a spark coil in early automobiles.

Interesting, my grandfather had a bunch of those in his 'storage shed' I always thought they must be some kind of battery. Heaven only knows why he hoarded them as he had quite a collection.

Looks to me like a memento from the 1978 Grey Cup Champions Edmonton Eskimos, coached by Hugh Campbell & quarterbacked by one of the all time great CFL QB's...Tom Wilkinson.
