Well I think I'm addicted cause its first thing I look for in the morning (right after I pee). And is a big concern when I travel, not knowing where to get a decent cup.
At home I do a single serve pour over with a fresh ground beans that are a custom mixture of different beans I mix together at home.
On the road I can do a Starbucks dark.

Anything strong and black. At home I either make dark roast in the Keurig or French press or even the stovetop percolator. Or throw some grounds into a pot of hot water and boil. Add some cold water to settle the grounds and pour.....I'm not at all fussy though and will drink gas station coffee as long as it's not weak.

Drink it black with no sugar as god intended it...

I used to only french press but I drink usually a litre in the morning and press just isn't big enough. I finally got convinced to try this unit from Moccamaster and I am surprised to say that it really does make the best drip coffee I have ever had and is insanely fast compared to anything I have ever used before. It is the the cats pajamas of a coffee makers for sure!

I still love a good french press but for daily this is it...

As for the type of coffee, just like my scotch I am all over the map depending on my mood. I like to try different roasts all the time, no specific brand in particular. Lately it has been all from Monogram roasters here in Calgary.

If you want good coffee then start out with good equipment, grind and brew your own.

You'll probably never go back to the pre-ground variety we commonly see in the supermarkets.

It takes a bit of trial and error to get something to your liking but well worth it.

I've been using the Moccamster KBT 7421 brewer and Baratza Encore grinder for about 5 years and rarely brew a pre-ground coffee any longer.

The variety of coffee beans is endless.

I’m pretty lucky, my daughters have both worked at Starbucks, so I get a good assortment. Before this I actually liked Kirkland quite a bit. I use a pour over “Vietnamese” style single cup coffee maker.

In Africa “black and bitter” is what they call a cup of black unsweetened coffee and that’s how I like it.

We got onto the Starbucks French roast whole beans from Costco. Run of the mill coffee pot. We would enjoy a better coffee maker but usually make 2-3 pots throughout the day and need the volume of a pot!
Whenever Costco has a sale we stock up 6-8 bags.
We don’t have a huge kitchen so a grinder hasnt found a home here yet. We use the vitamix to grind the beans. It usually grinds them pretty fine and we get a good strong coffee out of it.

I live with coffee snobs.

We have a Breville machine (whole beans in top then grinds) and it makes a great coffee as you get the freshest coffee and hottest water to make a perfect cup. With 4 coffee drinkers in the house, and everyone on their own schedule - and own styles they like - this is the best espresso, cappuccino, latte or coffee machine for the one cup at a time crowd. I am a simpleton and usually go for a straight Americano or the occasional latte if and when I decide I am staying put and working from home.

https://www.amazon.ca/Breville-BES870XL-Barista-Express-Espresso/dp/B00CH9QWOU/ref=asc_df_B00CH9QWOU/?tag=googleshopc0c-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=292899321329&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=2943200516189607842&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9061280&hvtargid=pla-383187201970&psc=1

When we have guests, or on the weekend, the Techivorm MochaMaster (same as a few others on here) comes out and we do batches. Easier to do it this way for multiple cups - and this machine has perfect temperature and a gold/copper filter that helps soften the water. My wife wanted this for Christmas a few years ago and I am happy we got it.

https://www.amazon.ca/Moccamaster-10-Cup-Coffee-Thermal-Polished/dp/B002S4DI2S/ref=asc_df_B002S4DI2S/?tag=googleshopc0c-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=292943077607&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=12204766507238673063&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9061280&hvtargid=pla-310050982308&psc=1

I hate to say it, and will never admit it, a good machine, and the right machine does make a huge difference. Fresh grind makes a difference. And good temperature control and water make a difference.

Our agreed upon "go to" brand it Lavazza coffee - we get the Rossa (RED) and sometimes the other one "crema something or other". We tried a few brands and the other one I like was at Coop (Big Mountain Dark) which I thought was every bit as good as anything and reasonable in price.

https://www.amazon.ca/Lavazza-Espresso-Rossa-Beans-1000gm/dp/B009IU5TQI/ref=asc_df_B009IU5TQI/?tag=googleshopc0c-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=292918787037&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=14573430600202780315&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9061280&hvtargid=pla-572429464798&psc=1

Having said all of that, I grab a cup of Tim's quite often, almost daily if I'm out and about and there is nothing wrong with it. I think they pour enough coffee that you get a fresh cup pretty much anytime you pull through. My wife and son upturn their noses at Tim's and would rather drop $10-$12 on 2 cups of coffee at Starbucks which seems insane to me. I think their straight up coffee is sour, bitter and acidic.

Moccamaster brew at home.
Lavazza beans from most grocery stores. The red and grey bag makes a coffee with low acidity and I never get heartburn from it.
I can’t stand most coffee elsewhere. Either too bitter or it tastes like the coffee maker needs a good cleaning and decalcification

I'm from a time before there were fancy machines and a plethora of exotic coffees there was just a plain cup of Joe.

Traveled for work many years had lots of bad coffee in camps, cafe's, gas stations and job sites sometimes getting by the taste to get a dose of caffeine took willpower and a little cream if it was really bad. I never did find out why camp coffee was greenish in colour and left permanent stains on a Styrofoam cup after only one cup.

For my unrefined taste buds Folgers at home is my goto , Mc D's on the road always black the way coffee was intended to be consumed. A buddy gave me a coffee at work, it was a double double from Timmy's worst coffee I ever spat out how can anybody do that to coffee.

Not really necessary to spend that much, although a good burr grinder is a must. You can get them for a couple hundred. I use a Breville machine. And a Moka pot is thirty bucks.

Really, the most important factors in a good cup of coffee, is good beans ground fresh (and that is all about personal taste, I still like my PC West Coast Dark best of all), burr grinder, good water. Don't use well water that tastes like sulfur and think you will have a tasty cuppa.

And drink it black.

25 plus years of shift work and by necessity I live on the stuff.

I have become very fond of the Midnight Canoe Trip from the boys at Bolt Action Coffee. Roasted fresh once a week to fill orders and not just sitting in a warehouse going stale. Then I grind the beans when it's time to brew. Although the different brew methods all create slightly different tastes they have all been great. Drip, pour over, French press or the best, the old perc on the camp stove.

I have a drip machine, but use the Aeropress on a daily basis as well.

Coffee itself mostly Salt Spring (West Coast Dark Roast, French Roast, Festive Blend) or something from Arrowhead Coffee Co. Whole bean and grind with my Bodum Bistro burr grinder.

Also have a Breville espresso appliance, but rarely use it. One day I'd like to go to a Gaggia Classic Pro...

Same with me and I love my Aeropress at work in the AM, when I make time :)

I was gonna do all of that, but then an Oilers fan got triggered and accused me of cultural appropriation, so I couldn't do it.

Aeropress. Make 1 cup at a time. I've tried them all and at the moment this is it. I'm always on the lookout for a new bean.

You won't see me @ Horton's.

How could I forget about the aeropress. I take that camping but sometimes at the house we get on a routine of using it instead of technivorm moccamaster. Great coffee indeed

Wildcat Coffee Company is legit. The "whiskey throttle" is my favourite. I believe the guy roasts them out of his shop/garage near Cochrane/cremona area. Its a must try in my books

I’ve been buying coffee from Riverbend Roasters out of St Albert area. Good stuff and I like supporting local. He will even deliver it to your door if your local and do a decent sized order.

For home, whatever is on sale.

For a stocking stuffer, I always get a pound of McDonalds coffee in my sock from my daughter.

McDonalds is my No. 1 choice: On my way to work or an outing, I pass a McDonalds that is nearby, so I stop in.

You can last 2 hours that's impressive

We bought an automatic espresso coffee machine Saeco from The Bay about 4 years ago. Best purchase ever! We tried lots of different beans but keep coming back to the Mellitta Espresso beans. Great taste. Sells for $17-18 but once every 4-5 months goes on sale for like $10 per bag. I usually load up on that deal.

What, no Black Rifle coffee or Ole Smoke drinkers here? Ha

Black Rifle is marketing genius. It appeals to "our type" of person (hunters, fishermen, gun owners) and I REALLY REALLY want to like the coffee.

Unfortunately it's the same old crap. It's really not good at all.

But it's clever marketing I guess.

Agree on the Black Rifle being crap. I tried to like a couple of them and couldn't do it. McDonalds pods in the Keurig has stuck.

I have tried many types in many different ways. Have a buddy that started a coffee business, and a few of his types are far beyond what I have found anywhere else.

For all you coffee pro’s you need to give it a try. Seriously, after having this most of the suggestions here you won’t even want to try again.

His company is Alternate Route Coffee Co. if you follow the French press brewing instructions (which are very particular to do it right) you will be amazed. My favourite flavours currently are : expresso blend, almond butter and jelly, and he had a Costa Rican that was out of this world, just not sure if it got restocked yet.

They sell online or in some stores local to the Edmonton area. They are located at the EIA and are great to deal with.

BRCC is just overpriced garbage. I don't support them due to their political flip-flopping and the owners stupid antics.

If you want good coffee and wish to support a veteran owned company, there are at least a couple Canadian options; I drink a lot of Arrowhead myself and get a box automatically a couple times a year through their subscription program.

stopped by innisfail this week for a coffee and tried the new coffee and local brewery Dark Woods Coffee Roasting. Being a dark roast fan, I found the French Roast really super. Worth driving back for more beans
(and the beer is top notch as well)

I got the bialetti, the aero press and the cheapie drip coffee maker.

McDs, Kicking Horse, Second Cup, Starbucks are all great. Black Rifle is all marketing, Tims SUCKS. Actually A&W coffee is now better than Tims.

One day I will buy a machine like tirebob.

aeropress is great to bring to site as Amazon springs coffee is mud water lol.

Looking for some Kona coffee for my dad as it's his favorite coffee.

Priorities! Haha!

I will wear nothing but $17.99 Costco jeans, live in an old house, buy my gonch in bulk and anything else I can to not spend money just so I can have great coffee, scotch, red wine and food. Lol!

I am in trouble now though that I have found guns again I think :kick: :)
