They claim federal regulations won’t allow temporary drivers licenses as secondary ID for domestic flights. Yet other airlines do ?!?!

Just look to what the regulations state.

Domestic air travel
If you have Canadian identification

Show one of these documents at the boarding gate:

one piece of photo identification issued by a Canadian federal, provincial or territorial government with your full name and date of birth or
two pieces of identification issued by a Canadian federal, provincial or territorial government. Both must have your name and at least one must have your full name and date of birth.
Acceptable Canadian government-issued identifications documents must be valid. They cannot be expired.
Here are some examples of acceptable Canadian government-issued identification documents:

passport
citizenship card
Canadian permanent resident card
Canadian provincial or territorial driver's licence
Canadian provincial or territorial health card
Canadian provincial or territorial government identification cards
birth certificate
Record of Landing Form/Confirmation of Permanent Residence (IMM 5292)
immigration documents issued to foreign nationals (e.g., Work Permit, Study Permit, Visitor Record, Temporary Resident Permit, Refugee Approved Status)
Canadian military identification
federal police identification
federal or provincial government employee identification cards
Old Age Security (OAS) identification card
Certificate of Indian Status (Status Card) issued by Indian and Northern Affairs Canada
NEXUS card
firearms licence
You can no longer use hunting, boating and fishing licences as identification for domestic flights.

Seems like you need to ask this of Transport Canada… or to report a complaint.

mailto:questions@tc.gc.ca

As you stated you did not have a valid photo ID… then you needed to produce two from the list above.

Temporary drivers licences in Alberta do not have a photo.
Federal regulations:
What is valid acceptable identification
The identification must have been issued by a federal, provincial, territorial or state government authority and must be valid, that is, not expired.

To be considered acceptable, the valid identification must include your:

name
date of birth
photo
signature

Temporary license does not have a photo so not a valid government issued ID, the airlines that take are the ones that are wrong

You guys are simply misinformed. If you do not have government photo ID they will accept 2 pieces of non-photo government ID. Eg sin card/birth certificate/etc. like I said flair won’t accept your temporary drivers license as 1 of the 2 pieces required. Other airlines will.

Are you referring to this part? ‘*If the driver's licence is expired but accompanied with a paper temporary extension, it is considered valid and accepted for travel.“

If so, did you have the accompanying expired license which is a picture ID? I may be wrong but in AB you surrender your old license when getting the new one so it would usually not be present, but if you say lost a license, got a new temp, and then found the old one then maybe you did have both, but otherwise it straight up states that a temp on it’s own is not acceptable.

Edit - nix that… I see further down what you are referencing and it does say acceptable.

The actual government site does have the swoop wording.

Email the transport Canada address I posted above. They will know know why they are different.

Thought you were going Flair...not swoop

From Flairs website;

"These items are NOT accepted as identification for flights:
• fishing, hunting, or boating licenses
• most temporary driver's licenses"

I will. That is good advice. Swoop let me fly no issues at all. Flair wouldn’t give me the boarding pass yesterday yet won’t refund over $300. Exact same 2 pieces of government issued ID.

"most temporary drivers licenses" is very vague.

Some "temporary licenses" have a photo so are valid most do not!

Who would attempt flying without a piece of a photo id of some kind? Weird.

Flair is trash though, but for a different reasons, lol.

I like producing my federally issued FAC with photo, which has always been turned down. Just for kicks.
