A break from the mother-in-law

Christmas is a time of year that brings family together, that includes bringing me together with my wife's mother for a short period of time. Bonus points for the wife though, she has allowed my a day of fishing during our bi-annual trip to Edmonton

So here is my question to you guys and gals inhabiting our provinces capital; if you had one day to fish from Edmonton, where would you go?

I fish for and pretty much anything and prefer to keep a few for the grill. I've got a shelter, electric auger and a fish finder. Closer to Edmonton the better, but will travel for quality fishing

I would go to pigeon or Gull.

We have been having some fun at Lac la Nonne...small perch, decent pike and the odd walleye and burbot seen. No retention of walleye allowed. Bait available at the store on the north side.

Personally I would go to Sylvan lake. Little further than Gull but have very good chance of pulling some Whites for a good fish fry.W/w and you are set find 10 to 13 fow and good luck.

I live in Calgary though, so Sylvan is a doable day trip for me from there. I'm looking for somewhere I wouldn't normally drive to from Calgary. Sorry, I should've put that in my original post

If you wanted to head a few hours north for a day trip, Calling Lake.

If you want a chance at some big ling, go to Calling and stay shallow right up to dark.

Tell the MIL you caught some fish that look just like her!

After she takes a few bites of deep fried ling, she will forgive you.

I have nothing to offer you in the terms of fishing. But to the bigger point of your story. I'll mark that down as a win for the boys. I dread spending time with the inlaws. After day two my patience wears thin and my fake happy face doesn't look real anymore. Congrats!!

I read this to my future son-in-law yesterday as we sat in the Otter Resort in -30*C for like the fourth day out fishing since Christmas. He said you have the wrong in-laws. ;)

P.S. He went out again today without me.

Why don’t you just find a slough or a dugout to set up on. Even that would be better then spending the day with the M.I.L.

You can also try Hasse Lake, about 30 min from Edmonton west end on what 16X. Last year I have seen some great reports about people catching trout and it did have perch as far as I remember too.
