I thought ripping lips was just a figure of speech but apparently someone took it very literally. This fish was and is still alive and healthy but he sure has a face that only a momma could love. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220104/87fb553aedccaf92f4434540b327d140.jpg

But that's how the bass fishermen on TV do it!

Most likely a barbed hook that was just ripped without out care or a lip hooked fish dangling/shaking in the air

The water should work as a shack absorber when it comes to a hook set and Lakers don’t have paper mouths but I won’t say it’s impossible

yea my drag is also my shock absorber. I always get a slight screech when I set my hook.

Lakers have such solid armoured lips. Something definitely messed up this fish.

As mentioned earlier, likely boat flipped and the hook ripped out.

Looks like me a hook that broke off and left in fish. The fishes body would reject the hook and then heal around the gap.
