Apparently LOW Japan builds scopes for a lot of people, of course they are built to a price point, but generally have good features for the money, and their upper end scopes such as Athlon Cronus, Delta Stryker, Trijicon Ten Mile, Tract Toric , some of the Nightforce units, some Vortex, all offer a lot of bang for the buck. Just a matter of what features you want at the price point you can afford, and which reticle you like best. This doesn't cover all of what they build, but has a decent selection.

And they show Japan Optics, who make Riton and a few others;

Japan has a reputation for making good lenses, partially technology transfer from Hitler. :D I've never looked down on them.

I have and continue to use a lot of Japanese and Philippian glass never had a problem. Unless your scope dates back to pre WWII it is probably made in one of three factories and just branded with your favorite label.

This is exactly what my father told me when I was starting to ask about a new scope for a varmint rifle in 1968!
The specific details for each brand may be a bit different as in reticle design and external dimensions, but that would be up to the individual company.
At one time, Tasco built a really good scope
That 1" tube 24X Tasco silhouette scope that Dueceman donated for the AO target rifle is a perfect example, one inch but it has more than enough turret to go all the way out to 1K with a 20 MOA rail, and regularly puts 5 into under 1MOA . It is clear, and the turrets are crisper than a lot of today's scopes.
It also has screw on lens caps.:sHa_shakeshout:

I have to agree with you Cat regarding Tasco scopes or at least early Tasco scopes. You see many of these lower powered cheap Tasco's on hunting rifles of past generations sportsmen, their lenses and cross hairs as crisp and clear as a quality brand name modern product. The 2 1/2 or 4 power with post and crosshair reticle is a favorite of mine for the correct application, sturdy as a steel tube Weaver I think. D.H.

Japanese made Tasco's are good, reliable scopes.
