It does, but he would be less likely to be eaten by those who are Kosher/Halal .... so he is a bit safer I guess:)

It's interesting that they are genetically modifying the heart so it isn't rejected. That will open up a lot of new options for people on the transplant list.

I hope they don't take it too far.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220112/64387b7c44698cce9a483ed0e2855f14.jpg

I've heard they were already using valves from pig hearts for human transplant, another AO regular might opt to chime in on this as his Dad recently got one and is doing well. I was asking if his Dad developed any skills at finding truffles now :sHa_sarcasticlol:

My Mother had a bovine heart valve replacement when she was 82 years old. She lived an excellent quality of life for another 10 years. Ten years is the expected average for a bovine valve to last and that’s when it failed her.

The life expectancy for a pig is 12 to 18 years. I’m guessing that the heart will have a similar best before date.

In 1985 dad had a tripple bypass and a pig valve installed. HE WAS 70. HE DIED AT 78. HE LOVED BACON. HA HA

Gotta remember, like the first heart transplant, this was an act of desperation, the guy had no alternative. The first patient only lived 18 days, we've come a long ways since then.

Genetic modification in medical treatment....oh no, can't have that....

Well, unless you want some new heart parts and then it is a fantastic scientific advancement. I am thankful for all the research that goes toward offering new treatment for a variety of health issues
