Well I finally made it back out on the ice this past week to kick off my hardwater season. I travelled by sled out onto the main lake and has seen anywhere from 12-16" of ice with the occasional flood water here and there.

The day started off pretty good with a flag before I even got everything fully set up. Then the bite slowed down until we got a flurry of bites in the afternoon. The key to picking off these aggressive lake trout was once they made a move at your bait don't give them much time to inspect it as you want to create a reaction or instinct bite. The Active Target sure helps with this process and being able to see those subtle direction/speed changes. Taking the time to set up a second rod can be very beneficial and lead to a few bonus fish

I always loved underwater footage so I tried something a little different this time. It was cool to see the countless fish come in and play with the bait as well as how quick they can gulp it down if they want to. The struggles of getting tangled in the cord happen but it was defiantly worth it to see how these fish roam on the bottom of the lake

As always thanks for the support and I hope you enjoy!

What camera are you using? How deep?

I assumed an Aqua vu won’t work past 15’ on most lakes in winter. Very cool.

Love your videos. Thanks.

I sure learned a lot about what goes on down there watching through the footage when I got home at the end of the day.

That was the aqua-vu HD7I. It really depends on water clarity and light penetration when you are using it that deep. I had to wait until about 10 this day for there to be enough light to see in 43ft. It's not really the most ideal thing as 70% of the time you end up tangled in the cable when you get hooked up but the footage is cool.

I know it did. I'm pretty sure that one was bigger too!

I’ve never fished for Lakers and was surprised to see when that school on the camera came by the bait that how many fish took a stab at it. I don’t get that walleye fishing. Very informative video. Good luck on all your next adventures out there.

Usually when more then one show up they compete for it and you get hooked up. But its cool seeing them interacting with bait laying on the bottom the same way as well

Its always fun out there and the action is second to non

The main reason I stopped fishing lake trout in Cold Lake is the size limit. I like eating fish but a 75 cm Lake trout is to big.
I also know how sensitive these fish are and many of the released fish die. In past years I've released a few only to find them floating under the ice.
I don't use bait as to help prevent them from taking the hook to far in their mouth
