So the other day I walked in to BackCountry Supplies with two rifles to see if they had some iron sights for them and when I walked out I had three rifles.:thinking-006:
They had a Remington 700 in 35 Whelen and since I wanted a designated elk and moose gun I bought it. Now to feed it, I will reload for it most of the time once I get some reloading dies but in the mean time I would like to find some factory ammunition for it. I did also buy 40 rounds of Hornady’s 200 grain Superformance load.
Does anyone have some ideas on where to look for some more of it or some other load that you recommend?
Also if any one has a bullet/powder combination that you recommend to give me some direction in reloading for it, it would be appreciated.

P.S. don’t mind the pistol. Thanks

I believe Prophet River has Remington 35 Whelen ammo

Without looking up in my book for powder , I used to use Hornady 250 gr interlock . I think I used 4895 powder. I also plinked with pistol bullets and Trail boss powder . It’s not a laser beam caliber , just a very good all around big game caliber for sensible range .

Prophet River has some Barnes 180gr but are sold out of the 200's they usually stock which are a better option in Barnes. Also some Rem 200gr corelocks and 250gr soft points. P&D has some Weatherby 200gr interlocks.

Talk to Prophet re ordering in some Nosler Trophy 225 AB's. I had them bring in 5 boxes for me which at the time were $85 per box of 20. More than enough good brass for me to fireform and reload for years since its not my go to rifle.

Shot the 225 Trophy AB with Labradar on hand and they were decently consistent at a low of 2670fps and high of 2705 fps. Great groupings, under. 75 with a couple of cloverleafs.

The Whelen is a very underrated cartridge imo. Does everything the 338 wm will do out to ballpark 275 yds with a lot less recoil. Hits with a helluva smack coming from 06 brass. I think you'll find 225gr at 2700fps and the 200gr Barnes at 2800fps is the sweetspot for the cartridge. There's no benefits to shooting the 250's.

I had a Rem700 CDL in 35Whelen. Any 200 grain load grouped very tightly but anything heavier was a bit wild. It really performed poorly with a 250. I never warmed up to Remington's twist rate and always felt it should be a tighter twist as I preferred the 225s and 250s. Sold that rifle and recently built a new 35 with a 1:12 twist which allows me to launch the heavier bullets.

Prophet River and Trapper Gord usually have a good selection.

My 700 Whelen groups 225 Accubonds at .75 and under all day long but it's been bedded. Can't get that in the 200's I've tried, namely Barnes.

I have also wanted a Whelen for years and to this day I don’t know why I don’t just get it. I guess the 30-06 just does what I need
As for load data, I’m pretty sure Salavee has a bunch of experience with it. I’d be picking his brain about the data he has

I have a couple of boxes (20) of Federal Premium 225 TB Bear Claws available if that helps you out.

May Trade for some 6.5 143 ELD-X projectiles of equal value.
