One of those calibers you could have both a rifle and a hand gun for.

One of my favorites. Are the shot loads bottlenecked cases or straight wall?
The predecessor of the .410 shotgun was actually a .44 called the .44 shot. I have one of those as well, that I can basically use normal 44-40 brass, and it fireforms to the chamber. Great little garden guns. Tried it out on bushbunnies. The first one never even seemed to react to the shot, and just ran off, so I thought I should get a bit closer.....Cut the next one right in two:sign0161: The 44 shot is an old sxs hammer gun that is, well,...Cute:thinking-006:
I have three different versions of rifle. The first is an original model 92 winchester, the others, a spanish "tigre" which is literally a knock-off of the '92, and the last is a spencer rifle. Great plinking guns compared to most of our current center fires.

We had one around when we were kids. 44 pounds of pressure 40 miles an hour. LOL!!

The 44-40 was if not the most versatile cartridge out there. Too bad I live in the USA or I'd offer to take them off your hands.

Lots of 44-40 history on the 44-40 website (https://sites.google.com/view/44winchester/chasing-the-44-40).
