Just wondering if anyone has been to Badger or Crawling Valley in the last week or so and can update me on the ice thickness?

A buddy was out January 29th at CVR.....they were at the north end...solid 24"....Trucks, trailers and shacks everywhere...all good.

Was at Crawling Valley about 10 days ago at the south end and same as the north end, 22-24" of ice everywhere.

Fished Badger 2 weeks ago and it was 24". One thing to note at Badger is the big heave that runs East/West just a bit south of the boat launch located along the east shore. Couple gaps and spots where you could get across the heave but I would not risk it in a vehicle. There are access points on both the north and south sides of the heave so avoiding this area is not an issue.

Have only fished/accessed South End, where do you access North end from?

I’m looking on Google maps, think I have a couple of spots identified. But tough to tell via satellite what is private vs public, which is a dead end or drop into the ice.

Been burnt before searching via satellite, some direction to access point would be appreciated.

Was at CVR on Feb 10.

8:00 am...we went onto the ice at the south end and at 5:00 pm we left the same way...No problem.

Drove up the dam side and fished about 200 yards west, adjacent to the green shack...Little to no luck, caught one small pike.

Then over to pelican rock and caught 2 small pike.

The wind was gusting 30Kmh.
Ice was 25" thick.
1" - 2" of water was pooling on the ice surface.

Cleats are a MUST....ice is like glass.

A bad day fishing is still better than a good day at work.

I am being told that as a rule of thumb: stay further away from the islands or any land in general, as the ice at those locations is generally thinner and weaker.

Word has it, the vehicle mentioned earlier in the thread, that fell through the ice, was north of the boat launch (wind sock) and west towards the islands, no exact location was provided.

Test your ice depths and park your vehicle accordingly.

If you want to fish closer to land, then start walking and start drilling as you near land.

Wonder if he got out. I would have gone to help if I saw that post. I have a winch on my truck. Don't know what forum that is. When I go through, hope someone helps me out. (karma). Noticed one of the response on the guy's post for help was a laughing face - that person is d!ck!

We watched Brooks towing help him out, they are pro's for this area, helped me out last year too when our sxs went through at a different reservoir

Unfortunate that almost the entire lake seems to be 20"-24" thick, then there's a thin spot. Makes a guy not want to drive on.

Just stay away from the shallows, islands and weed bed areas and you will be fine.

Safest place right now is the boat launch.

I was out this past Monday. We came in from the north end and fished about 500 meters out from the road / waters edge (shore).

To my surprise the ice measured 28".

From where I was sitting, all but one ice shack was removed.

Based on the minus temps on the way, doesn't matter as the lake closes on March 15th. That is probably why shacks were taken off.
