View Full Version : In search of a left-handed .22 for wifey

As the title states, I am after a left-handed .22 for my wife. She has used my 10/22, my Marlin 81 and my little guy's Savage Rascal. She is happy to plink with any of these, but being a southpaw she frequently comments on the awkwardness of using the action.

We plan to be in at our cabin all summer long (ditching town life), and she agrees heartily with the idea of getting truly comfortable with her own rifle.

Bolt action preferred. Likely stay away from semi-auto. Smooth action and quality is preferred, but ultimately this will be a bush/cabin gun. $600-ish or less would be lovely. What should I be looking at? I am open to all recommendations.

At that price you will never do better than this. Better snap it up, they don't make them anymore.

Do not even think twice, buy it fast because it won't last. I thought about buying it just because they are impossible to find any more, then I scrolled down a bit and see it is marked as Out of Stock. Only other viable option in that price range is Savage, everything else is over your budget, even used. Savage shoot great, just not near as pretty as CZ, Anschutz etc. Avoid the LH Browning T-Bolt, I have owned a few and sold them all because they were not near as accurate as I thought they should be, especially for the price.

Cz are the way to go if you can find them. I have an iron sighted lux and I purchased and American to scope a year or so ago when they discontinued the 452 line.

You can look at the tikka t1x but they are more like $800.00. If I didn’t have my cz rifles. This is where I would look to start.

Other than that there are Annie and Cooper for $2k starting and then savage for $5-600.

There are lots of high quality LH 22s around. Tikka, Anschutz, Cooper, NULA, Vudoo and a few others but none of these is $600. Even used they usually go for more than that, so what there isn't, is very many in-expensive LH options. Savage makes a true LH semi auto, about $300. I had one, pretty good little gun. Savage also makes a few different bolt actions starting at 180, on up. The other LH semi is the Browning semi Auto with Bottom eject, but they start at $1000 new, 600 and up used.

Savage mk11 are great accurate rifles. There are two in the household although they are RH version.. know you said bolt but have you considered a lever action? A henry 22lr are great for plinking fun

I’d consider the browning bl 22.

Good choice for a reasonable price. I sold my Anschutz lefty and kept the Savage mk ii lefty. I always hated scratching up the Annie while shooting gophers, Savage is plenty accurate and 1/4 the price.

I have a Savage MK 2 BV
Its not a left handed rifle but it is very accurate, much prefer it over my 10/22

Savages may shoot good but they are pretty crude. I have a left hand thumb hole laminate savage shoots great but the entire action is pretty rough. You need to jam the mags in with authority to get them to latch.

CZ is showing a few LH 22LR 457 models for 2022.

Tikka hasn't made the T1x 22LR in LH.

Thanks a bunch. I knew CZ had brought out the 557 in Left Hand but not the 457. That is going to be a very popular gun. Will have to check Epps and a few others. I know Prophet River and P & D show 457s in stock but they don't list one in LH.

Peace Meal Farm, that is a rifle that would be worth ordering through Prophet River and waiting for. It should be quite close to your budget, right hand runs about 650 depending on model, and CZ makes a very nice rifle for the price. Not really any more accurate than the Savage, just more refined.

Kidd Auction on icollector.com has a bunch of left hand rifles in its February sale. Not sure if there were any .22's or not.

Something I just thought of is Bergara makes a LH 22. I have never owned or shot one, never even seen one, but it might be worth looking around for since there are so few options. I also don't know the price and whether they fit in the budget.

I own a LH CZ 452 American, it shoots pretty darn good, favouring Eley Sport or Action ammo, followed by of all thing Federal Game-Shok solids.

I bought a Savage MkII LH with a wood stock for my daughter, this rifle digests the Federal bulk Hollow Points with outstanding accuracy taking a backseat to the CZ but just barely.

Don’t snub the Savage rifles, although the fit and finish is a bit lacking the price point makes that truly forgivable, when the accuracy potential is so close to that of rifles costing twice as much or more.

It’s not like your lady is going to enter hi demand competitions anyways.

One more word of advice should the OP elect to go the Savage MK ii route: get the wood stock version. The plastic stocks are shaped differently with way too much drop at the heel to get a decent cheek weld if using a scope.

You're welcome.

CZ does make nice rifles. I've been holding out for the LH T1x 22LR for a couple of years now. If Tikka keeps dragging their feet, that 457 Varmint wil look good in my safe.

CGN has a savage and a couple of other LH and LH friendly 22s like the Browning SA, Remington 572 pump on it right now if you are still looking.

Savage Mark II BTVLSS LEFT HANDED

Looks new. I'll include three magazines. (2x10 rounds, 1x5 rounds) , LimbSaver Barrel Vibration Damper and 20 MOA EWG mount
Sell: $500 plus shipping (around $30-$40). If over, I'll pay the remaining cost.

Low rounds and shoot very good.
Barrel length: Varmint 21"
