Hi,

Wondering whether anyone has had experience importing ammo from the states? I have done some research and it suggests that an individual can bring up to 5,000 rounds for non commercial use.

I have two scenarios in mind - I either pick some up next time I travel to the states or wondering whether a family member who resides the states would be able to send some up.

Does anyone have experience with either scenario?

Thanks!

Just to be clear, it is never an issue IMPORTING the ammo into Canada.
But for a non resident in the US it is very illegal to be in possession AND EXPORT the ammo out of the US. There are exceptions of course, such as attending shooting competitions, etc down there.
The ATF and Homeland Security have check stops near border points from time to time for this particular reason.

You will find two things:

- you can’t export ammo from the US without an export license. Canada is ok with you bringing it home, US not so nice about exporting.

- there will be far less ammo on the shelves there than here

As stated you can land in a world of hurt from the US side.

Maybe phone prophet river and talk to them, they have an import/export section on their website.

When exporting from the USA to Canada, there are two sets of federal regulations that you have to comply with, yet so ,many people only check with Canada Customs, and completely neglect the USA regulations.

Homeland Security and the BATF are two different entities that don't follow the same rule book.

I used Prophet River to bring in my 1903 22 win auto ammo, and my 1907 351 winchester ammo, the easiest way to do it.
