Last year I was in the kayak at PCR the first week of April. Anyone know if the ice is off of any of the Southern Alberta open season lakes yet?

I'm not sure if you are referring to Police, but if so, I'd guess the lake is down about a foot over average, and I judge that by going under the bridge to the island and how much headroom I have while in my float tube. I would say you're good to go, there were a few other motor boats out on Wednesday.

Seen truck and empty trailer in parking lot, then noticed the boat out on the lake fishing. This was last Friday.

Myself no someone else should. Interesting, drive up hiway 36 just now looking east, Newell is wide open and a beautiful blue, looking west Kitsim is still frozen over. Most of the snow from the last couple days is melted already

Stopped at the gates to Crawling Valley today. I did not walk over to the lake, but I didn't see any ice. They're building a new registration office just beside the old shack. NE. Nice looking setup on a lake/campground/local community/EID that all deserve big KUDOS for regular improvements to the experience!

When you are talking building a new office, is it right beside the old one, at the entrance? Did they level the old one? Why I ask is cause there has been a trailer set up for many a season right beside the office. Looking forward to the new double boat launch added. For those that camp there as I like to. Ya better check out some of the changes to the rules. One, as it says, no more than one unit per site. One trailer (motorhome) and one tent. Price has also gone up again. It pays for the improvements :sHa_shakeshout:

Yes it's maybe 30 feet away. Much larger building with a covered deck at the front. I've never camped there, keep planning to but launch & recover, we're an hour away. I must be lucky, I just don't ever recall a really long wait to get the boat in or out. There or Newell.

Now Travers, or Sunbreaker Cove............

Latest from yesterday downs Wabamun ice free. Pigeon is about 50% open. Strangely Gull still mostly covered. Must have been colder down there.
Should be all open by the weekend though at most lakes in central / North central.

Sounds good.

Looks like from the Satellite image Isle and Buck Lake South as well. Gull and Sylvan still largely ice covered but shouldn't be long now.

Newell open but the dock is not in yet. Couple very nice fishing boats getting their spring tune up, ramp is fine, water level decent. There's a few trailers in the campground

Crawling Valley both ramps working, the dock is in, few trailers in the campground, few boats tied up to the overnight docks.

Every day :)
Only problem is cloudy. This is from 3-May and haven't seen the lake since. Actually been very cloudy North of Edmonton this spring.

Actually, it appears again on the 5th. More big cracks. Hard to see anything South of that though.

Looking back, the last sunny day was April 24th. Why do we live here again? I miss my visits to Phoenix. 300 full sun days a year. Why is it called "Sunny Alberta". I call BS.

Here is a cool site that shows satellite photos too. It looks like it refreshes every 3 days or so...neat to see the ice melt progression on some of the lakes. There's a calendar on the top that lets you scroll through...
