Hello everyone, I'm looking for a hike in lake (or creek)to spend may long weekend with my father. I'm 15, not in the greatest shape (but can still hike 5-10km) and want to go cutthroat or brook trout fishing. We where thinking Gap lake (near RMH) or kinglet lake. any suggestions? I am from Red Deer and might be willing to go to to Kananaskis area.-EN Fishing. :)

The Shunda has just about every species of trout in it depending on where you're fishing it.

There's a hike in lake north of Abraham Lake by Allstones that is supposed to be pretty good for brookies, can't remember the name of it though.

Fish Lake is good for some big rainbows in May. Not hike in though.

Lots of awesome fishing north of Nordegg along the trunk road too.

Doubtful the hike in lakes will be ice free by may long in the higher elevations/high country. Aim for June and check your regs for cutthroat seasonal openings and closures.
