Well the wife got herself a new yak a pelican catch 120 after three years of fishing off her paddle board she came around.
We headed out to Ethel lake for the maiden voyage and to see if we can get the yak smelling like fish, well it didn’t take long and we were into pike and walleye.
Beauty day just a slight breeze and hungry fish, good times!

Forgot to add that lake trout may be on the menu from the yak tomorrow if the weather is nice.
I told her they pull you around like nothing and it is a blast.

I want to try one of these fishing kayaks before I buy... Worries me my back will not be able to handle the sitting position for and period of time. Does anyone with severe lower back problems have any input?

Looks like a great time! Sorry for the semi-hijack of your thread...

I have a pretty bad back and was reluctant to buy one. I can say the first time out i had my doubts that I would be able to last more then an hour or so. Well, I can say i had no issues except around the 6 or 7 hour mark. My back was starting to getting a little uncomfortable. So I headed to shore, did some walking around and a few stretches and headed back out for another 4 hours before I called it a day. Depending-on the brand u buy, the seats are quite comfortable actually. I added seat risers to mine as I heard this helps out with back issues and maybe it did as I lasted longer then i figured.

There is so many different styles of seat amongst the different brands and models. You should be able to find something that works for you

It’s like a lawn chair type set up just with no legs
Google the pelican catch 120 and you will see the chair
Real comfy as you can sit high or low in the yak and it has various reclining positions too
Kinda jealous!

Talking about comfy chairs well she got into lakers today as we were trolling a pink lady, willow leaf and then a apex trolling lure brown trout pattern.
Three hours later and we tried for pike too but were getting tired so wrapped it up.

Well I am about as beat up as they come, broke my back twice, right hip replaced and arthritis in the left hip but that being said even in mine I can sit for 8hrs as they are super comfy.
I think the key is having the ability to change positions which in all fairness the higher end models of yaks allow you to do this and even stand up.
A wider yak 34-36 inches and 12 feet in length allows a very stable platform and toss in a chair that allows you to set it up in different positions to accommodate what you like is the answer.
I have eye balled the old town sportsman 120 pedal yak hard for all the creature comforts, maybe when I get a little older give mine to the kids and jump into the Cadillac of yaks!

Until then all I can say is they are a blast just so peaceful and when you get into a fish it’s just simple fun.

Ohhh I almost rolled out of mine today reaching way over as I got a little excited after a serious hit!

We have two 10 foot Pelican Catch. My 9 year old has no problem paddling it across a lake. They are surprisingly efficient on the water. The only modification I did was to glue a removable fin on it so it tracks better when you paddle. That made a huge difference.

Ya I saw that on YouTube some fella added a fin, i have not used hers yet and she hasn’t complained about tracking but I will get her a portable fish finder cuz the constant how deep are we and see any marks was like being at home:sHa_sarcasticlol:

A garmin striker will be added to her yak soon.
