Wabamun walleye

Spent 4 hrs on Wab. today and between two rods we went threw 4 tubs of minnows and the average size was 30 cm . Not one was over 43 cm or even close to it .
Seems like they are a lot smaller this year .

Any one catching any thing bigger than 43 cm ?

We were out there last weekend. I agree - not many over 43cm and mostly around 30cm-40cm for us.

We did catch a really nice healthy pike that seemed fat, happy and not sickly looking - almost like the good old days. 11.1 lbs

That was nice to see. We used to catch a few around that size almost every trip - but it has been a while since we caught something healthy there (albeit I went once maybe twice last year to Wab).

10-12 years ago walleye at Wabamun were a myth - never saw one, never caught one.

Fast forward now - they are jumping into your boat like carp and we are complaining !!!!:)

Sounds exactly like Lac Ste. Ann about 15-20 years ago.
Could go out and catch well over a hundred walleye on any given day. Retention was zero.
Quite rapidly, all other species disappeared, and the ones that remained were badly stunted. Eventually the walleye stunted as well.
Then the tags came out and now, after over a decade of walleye harvest, the other species are starting to come back.
They need to curb the walleye population at Wab sooner rather than later or it'll follow all the other lakes that they allowed to be taken over by a protected species..

Yup, used to go there once a month at least for whitefish and pike.

They didn't as far as I can remember.
But we used to hammer the Whites around Seba Beach.

Wed always catch the odd walleye if we fished around the hump west of Fallis in the late 80's Used to catch big perch right of the end of the provincial dock in the 70s also.
