Where was and how old were you? Mine was in T.O. No matter what breed or type of fish.
One of the first trout I ever caught was from the Humber River , probably 6 ounce on a piece of rolled up bread.
The biggest was in SIOUX LOOKOUT at 10 yrs old 12 LB walleye

Below the EB Campbell dam on the Saskatchewan River. It was a pike. I was 4.

After flyfishing on the the crow for around half a decade I finally caught a 12” brown, I was 12 years old! What a memory!!!

Fishing charter as a kid, I don't really count those salmon though.

Pike at Calling Lake. My earliest memories were of building our cabin. Every Friday after Dad came home, we piled groceries into the car, and off we went. Gravel. Road from after the bridge at Athabasca. Block 7 Lot 7. What I'd give for that cabin now.

Man, I love fishing, and Calling Lake is far and away my favorite lake in Alberta.

My Grand F and I were the same. Lac Suel area is where I got hooked.

The first one I remember was a 16" rainbow trout out of Harrison Lake in BC. Caught on a Mepps spinner i believe.

The first one I remember is about 5-6 years old at a dam somewhere in central NFLD. Brook trout. My Dad knows where but I can't remember. I remember being excited because it was the largest one caught that day. We put it in the freezer. No recollection after that. lol

A piece of red meat from the Peace River IGA in grade 4. The big boys showed me that a nickel (half a chocolate bar at the time) would buy a pretty big chunk good for fishing for a few days. A big nut for a weight and 10' of line or so tied to a willow stick stuck in the ground. 8" or so chub out of the Heart River. I was ecstatic!

Can't remember how old exactly, old enough to remember I guess. Was a Pike out of Wadlin Lake north of red earth. I remember thinking I was stuck again at first lol. Next cast after that fish got my second. Fishing with my next oldest Brother, both Grandpas and my Dad. All stuffed in a little 14' Harbercraft tinner pushed by a 15hp evinrude. Only reason I mention the boat is I still have and use the motor on occasion.

My cousin, my brother, and I in a 12ft rented boat rented from Shipwreck on Yellowhead and 127st. Trolling around Lac Ste. Anne.
I was 9 years old.
We launched by the docks at the bridge on the reserve.
I was using a purple jig with silver sparkles and a pink tail, tipped with a minnow.
I caught 2 pike that day, my brother caught 4, and my cousin caught 5.
Boat died on the Warwa side and we had to row back.
That was 35 years ago, but I remember it like it was last week.
The trip obviously left an impression. Lol.
It also started an awesome addiction. :)

Growing up on a farm left little or no time off during the summer. But on the one day that Dad did take a day off he took us to Medicine Lake since we were haying north of Bentley. I caught about two pound pike from shore. That was about 55 years ago. I still have a picture of that 10 year old smiling proud boy holding that fish.

It was a good size crucian carp in local pond back in Europe. I was probably 4-5 years old . Bamboo rod, no reel, very basic setup as far as I remember.

Mine was a Speckled Trout caught in a stream feeding the Montreal River and then flowing into lake Superior, I was with my Dad and a younger brother, I was 8 or 9, I had hooked fish before that but never landed one,

Don't remember but if i was to guess it was either a carp or a creek chub. My grandpa in Iowa got me into fishing. I remember going out around town in the ditches bobber fishing or we would go to the "pit" to catch carp on homemade dough bait.

Keremeos Creek... Flows into the Similkameen River. Maybe 5 feet wide at most. I was probably 6. Caught a little brookie by myself that was maybe 8 inches. After that I was hooked fished in that little creek all summer! Biggest fish I pulled out of there I was maybe 14 and it was a beauty 18 inch rainbow.

Amazing what those little creeks can hold!

Hi cuz :) Caught lots of specs in Cold Creek and Root River around the Soo. Some in creeks on St Joes Island too.

My first was a brook trout in swan creek, upstream of swan lake at the age of 3 in the early 80’s.

Largest landed is still a 360lb stripy two years ago although I’ve hooked much larger.

Oldest boy, first solo was a rainbow at 3 years old

His largest is probably a cobia at about 20lbs because he doesn’t fish much. Gets to sea sick.


Middle child’s first was a perch on Phyllis lake at 2 year old

His largest would be a black around 50kg although he’s lost fish more then twice that size.

He’s got the technique sorted with the rod under his butt and he can handle anything. I try not to put him on fish over 100kg cause the fight drags on to long but he won’t let anyone else help regardless how long he’s been on the rod.

The little girls first was a tomato cod and she was 2

Her largest is probably a carpet shark her brother helped her with but I can’t think of any larger fish she’s caught alone.

I take her all the time to catch bait but she got up me a few weeks ago because I don’t take her wide for “real fish” and she wants to start coming with me. She’s 4 now so it’s time to get her into something with more fight in it.

Dad brought me out there in the early 70's too, maybe 6-8 and my friend Dean also around the same years. Maybe we were all out there on the docks or the canoe.

Pike at moose lake, with grandpa (RIP), dragging a red devil from the side of the 12 foot tinner. I don’t exactly remember the first, we caught lots, would have been 2 years old. By 4 I was sneaking out of the cabin by myself at first light. Slow azz old people and their boring coffee and breakfast :lol: Back to the cabin covered in blood and slime with pizzed off hammer handle flopping in the net. Get told off for making a mess on the deck. Do it again as soon as they weren’t watching.

Wife caught a pile of fish while she was pregnant. Baby would always go nuts inside when she had one on the line. I now watch fishing shows with my daughter all the time, she always notices the walleye. Took her on the boat for the first time this year at 6 months. She gave the pike a funny look, but had a big smile when I held up a walleye :)

Took my son out to Dewitt's pond west of Airdrie when he was 4 yrs old (he now 30) He caught 5 Bow's in 20 min. It's a put and take stock pond. He could barely hold them up on the stringer. He was so proud to show his grandpa and uncle. The smile was ear to ear. As was mine for him. I will never forget. He still remembers. Now when we go fishing for Bow's he kicks our butts. His biggest so far is a 5lb football size out of ........ Lake. LOL

so I guess I was 13. first fish caught at Bragg Creek provincial park in 1970. Very special photo for me, I lost my little brother to cancer a few years back and my Dad to age last February.

I can't remember tha last fish I caught never mind the first, some 60+ years ago.

I know it was caught in the Wolvarine River becuase that was the only place I could fish back then. I only got to go fishing then when the men folk went on a fishing expadition to the Wolvarine.

Just a guess but I suspect I would have been about 6 years old then.
I know we didn't have a motor for the boat because I remember paddling like mad against the current to make it accross the Peace.

I do recall catching a 4 pound Goldeye in the Peace River around about 1964.
I'd have been 10 that year and I had been fishing many times before and was able to fish by myself by then.

Somewhere there is a 80+ year old teacher with a photo of a 10 year old hillbilly holding a 4 pound Goldeye up for her to take a picture of.
Man she was hot back then!

Biggest landed was a 24 pound Pike caught in the Buffalo River.
Biggest hooked was a 200 lb+ Halibut just off Lucy Island near Prince Rupert.

Can’t recall exactly, but for me it would have been a pike caught off the Seba beach pier in the mid-70’s. Rod/reel were either from Army&Navy or WW Arcade.

Cutthroat trout on Upper Campbell Lake on Vancouver Island in the mid-70's when I was 4 or 5.

For biggest it would be a toss-up. I've caught 3 Sturgeon between 8' & 8'4". We also pulled a Skate up next to the boat on the West Coast in the mid-90's that was as big as a sheet and a half of plywood squared and probably 6-8" thick. I've also broke off 3 West Coast Salmon Sharks that were probably 8+ foot long, all right next to the boat. I'd think they were the heaviest. They were definitely the meanest. Just like small Great Whites...

I was 6 and caught a cut throat on Monroe Lake near Cranbrook. Like a lot of firsts, I won't ever forget catching that fish!

Crazy, there are still a few monster Halibut there, I got one over 200 there not that long ago.
