Nechako River BC, sturgeon dying

Sad to read that so far 11 of the white sturgeon of the Nechako River have died without explanation. What is killing them is yet to be determined. I can see the sturgeon fishing in this river system maybe coming to an end for a while.

Sturgeon fishing in the Nechako has been banned for a long time. It has basically been banned in most rivers sturgeon inhabit outside of the lower Fraser

The Nechako flow rate is a shadow of what it was in the past and theses sturgeon have been on the decline for a long time. This river has been negatively impacted by agriculture, dam, logging and development. It is a small river when it comes to white sturgeon waters

The population in the Nechako has been in trouble for a long time

The dams put on the Nechako to generate hydro for certain corporations has had a negative impact on the sturgeon but also the sockeye salmon run which has also declined. The main food source in that river for sturgeon are salmon.
