Hey guys,

I need a spare impeller for my Mercury 40 outboard. I see a huge range in price online from $16-47. Are these cheaper ones worth buying?

All of them seem to be made of plastic but cheapest usually means leave it alone. Like all thinkgs good better best.

Google up some reviews on the brands and that should help you out.

I replaced mine on my 25 Merc and just went to the dealer and bought the kit for $125 but that was last yr so they are most likely higher in price now.

I buy the whole OEM water pump kit when I replace mine. Currently it’s $105 for my 150 Suzuki and for how infrequently I change it and how important it is for the engine I don’t mind buying OEM.

I know they say to change them yearly but mines in its third season and has 800+ hours on it and the engine runs at 70 deg all the time. When I changed the water pump the telltale looked good but the engine was running at 95 deg.

I don’t have any experience with the knockoff impellers so ymmv.
