Do you have accessories such as trim tabs, whale tail or trolling plate installed?

Seastar Power steering? You might have seals that need replaced. Had to do mine last year.

Trimmed too high?

Might have a oversized prop on motor so they remove the steering fin.

If it has hydraulic steering and is out of oil it will be uncontrollable.

Are you one of those new fishermen that drinks bud light and wears a man bun.
Chances are then you launched your boat with the trailer attached to boat . :sHa_shakeshout:

Does it do it with the kicker as well?

Not sure if it makes a difference but is the kicker also down at that speed? Is your boat sitting flat, bow up or plowing (nose down deep) at 10 speed?

If it's cable steer and sloppy - should be pretty straight forward to re-tension and fix. Maybe something bound up somewhere? Sometimes a bad wheel somewhere with a spun hub slipping.

Pretty surprised to hear it's cable steer as that was uncommon for that year (most are hydraulic for last 30-40 years).

Is there a hydraulic cylinder pushing the motor itself (with a hydraulic line running to it maybe???) That's hydraulic and would consistent with that year of boat.

If that's the case the cylinder may need replacing as the "stops" (seals) may be loose and sloppy ????

Mechanical cable steering is still common today on the outboards up to 115 hp or so. My 2022 uses a cable and the tilt steering coupler came loose, the result being a great deal of slop in the steering, and erratic steering. A little loctite, and tightening the allen head capscrew in the coupler ,solved the problem.

looked at everything elk said and everything is tight on motor end. All the play is at steering wheel end. Im going to change over to hyraulic and be done but costly

The coupler is just under the steering wheel, it ties the steering wheel to the steering box. My wheel had 1-1/2" of play before I tightened the capscrew under the rubber boot covering the steering wheel coupler . After I tightened it, the play was less than 1/4". Roll the rubber boot under the steering wheel back, turn the wheel until you see the socket head , and tighten it. It takes very little tightening to remove the play.

ok when i peeled the rubber back all i could see was tilt steering stuff
and with all the wireing all around the steering box i better not try to go deeper because i can wreck lots with out trying to hard .
there is 3or4 ins play in steering.

The allen head is in the tilt steering coupler, that ties the wheel to the steering box. Turn the wheel and watch for it.

I was literally thinking Cable/Pulley - not the teleflex (push pull) type with the tube ..... sorry totally missed that .....
