A decent start

One of my goals for the season is to get a 30" walleye. Arrived at the campsite at 8pm. Launched the boat at 9pm and managed to get this 27.25" fish within the hour before heading back in.

Basically just wanted to check the water temp and see what the lake was doing but hopefully that's a sign of good things to come for the rest of the weekend.

Fish was safely released of course.

Looks like a great start to the season!

The first fish my wife caught in the 2023 open water season was a 42” northern on her third cast.

I managed to get this 40.5” and a 42.5” on my outings a couple days earlier.

Some awesome pike there! I'm going to look for some of those this afternoon. Definitely some potential for some big ones here but they're not prolific. May take a drive to another lake tomorrow where I know for a fact there are plenty monsters if this lake doesn't give this goods today :fighting0030:

Creeping slowly towards the goal. Added another 1/2 inch with this 27.75" . Walleye being super finicky at the moment was no easy task convincing this guy to eat. Managed quite a few pike but nothing big, didn't spend much time on them though as the wife wanted to look for an eater size walleye. She managed to get one on a shallow flat that was almost a keeper but ended up too big.

She also vetoed the new lake idea, understandable, it's a 2 hour drive from our campsite lol. So looks like I'm going to keep pushing for the trophy walleye but will try again for some pike on my own.
