Ya tie or buy 10 flys or so depending on how many there are in the swap. All the same. Send them to a pre arranged address. Then the guy sorts them And sends you 10 back that will all be different.

Like I said ya need at least 10 people to make it worth it.

Well looks as if we have 7 now. I will be out of town for the next 5-7 days so hopefully when I get back we have enough people. And we can get the ball rolling on this.

Remember folks you don't have to be a fly tie person to enter. Its all just fun.
But ya get some dang good flys.:wave:

Heck I know.

Are we going to have a specific theme for this swap? Or just whatever comes off the bench?

I don't tie flies, but i do have some tied by a friend that are proven on the bow. I only have a small dry selection. Is this OK?

Not sure if you have 10 yet or not. But I'll bite.

What kind of flies were you wanting us to tie? Usually there is a theme or a target species that your tying for.

I'll tie anything no matter what you want.

One mistake some people make is not having a deadline. Make sure you make a deadline for having the flies tied and shipped. If a person doesn't tie and still wants to join in they can always buy 10 flies the same at their local fly shop.

Count me in, too.

I'll try tying, but if they suck I'll send purchased (Icky Flies) flies.

I've participated in swaps before, and have always enjoyed it.

I like to get things crafted by beginners as much as by experts :) But, if anyone who is participating would be unhappy getting something from a novice that should probably be known (to avoid disapointment).

I've got lots to say (as usual) but it is hard to type on a BlackBerry while on the bus!

Honda why don't you make a list of everyone who's in the swap. So we all know how many there are and just who's in and who's not.

A deadline is good too.

Cheers

That makes 12.

Will give everyone a few days to post what they would like as a theme. Once that is decided I will start a new thread with the deadlines. Have fun.

I vote for dry trout patterns.

Remember moose season opens on Nov. 1 hehehe:wave:

I think we should do a percentage of each. A few drys, a few nymphs etc

I like the idea of doing an "assortment" as well. Dries, nymphs, chronies, small streamers? If we are submitting 10 flies how about something like 4 dry, 2 nymph, 2 chironomid, 2 streamer? Or whatever combination people feel is sufficient.

Its going to be 12 flys now Wazzy as we have 12 people. Maybe more.

Honda, I ws in a swap a few years back, it was a nymph, emerger, dry swap. You had to pick a fly and do all 3 phases of that fly. theres an idea for one of your future swaps

Ahem...and that Honda is why you are in charge...and I'm not...Haha, I guess I'll have to tie up a couple more nymphs...Whatever is decided on, I'm good with. I enjoy tying regardless of the type of fly. I use them all, therefore i tie them all.

Dry trout flies are good for me. I'd prefer to do 12 of the same fly rather than splittin between the various lifecycle stages. Next time we can do emergers, or nymphs. Would a hopper count as a dry fly?

Honda, I can tell you that I have run many fly swaps over the years. I hope you don't mind if I give you a few suggestions to help you make this swap run smoother for yourself.

1) Make a limit of tyers. 10 or 12 is a good number. But be firm once your decision is made stick to it. The guys and gals don't want to find out today they have to tie 10 and tomorrow they have to tie 14 flies. The more people you have involved in the swap the harder it is to keep track of everyone and who's sent you the flies and who the lazy dogs are. Yes there will be lazy dogs. There is always one or two that drag a swap on for ages.

Which brings me to the second point. Make a FIRM deadline as to when you want the flies in your hands by. Trust me again I say there will always be someone who won't have them in by when you want. Either you go at that point and cut them out. Or wait for them to get them in. Most time's I give them an extra week then send the flies to the one's who put the effort out to get them to you.

Now for my third point. YOU decide what type of fly were going to tie. Yes you are running it so you can decide. Dries, wet, nymph, streamer, terestrial ect, ect. But again be FIRM and you make the choice. Once you've made the choice stick to it. Then I usually have them decide ahead of time and post what fly they are going to submit. (Example, You may say dries. Someome might say they are going to tie and Elk Hair Caddis). Which is what I'm going to tie for this swap by the way. Then by their names in a posting I put their fly pattern that they are going to be sending in.

Fourth point. Have them send in the amount of flies = to the number of people in the swap and all the same fly. Trust me I've seen some people send in 8 when 10 were involved. Who gets shorted? Usually you. Once their flies come in to you then post beside their names that you received their flies.

Now for the fifth and final point. Make sure everyone includes their board name somewhere in the envelope with their flies. It's hard to know who's who when all you know them by is their board names. Have each person send their flies along with an extra self addressed stamped envelope. That saves you worrying about their address and so they pay for the postage back to themselves. So you don't have to.

Hopefully this helps.
Rob

Thanks for the tips Kingfisher. Stuff I was going to do anyhow. Yeah don't like the idea of mixing flys to be sent in.

Never got to the deadline bit yet. Rules and deadlines will be posted today on a new thread.

Yeah think I will go with dry trout flys.

My entry will be Green Drakes.
