All the ponds from here to Edmonton are ice covered now...probably 2 mm...

It does mean ice fishing is coming in the next 2 months to a place near year.

Wouldn't trust the ice now though:scared:

I was out on Pine lake with a buddy yesterday and there wasn't even ice around the shore yet, i was pleasantly surprised. Water temp was still approximately 45 degrees. Not a half bad day either, 17 fish between the two of us between 2-7 lbs. Mixed bag of pike and walleye.

Was out fly fishing Chickakoo last evening very little ice on that lake, ducks wouldn't even walk on it:lol: Thinking it will still be sometime afore the ice is safe to get out on. Having said that I'm sure we will be reading post tomorrow about someone going through the ice with a 3/4 ton 4b4:rolleye2:

Well a feller might get one more crack at it before they lay up the boats. In southern Alberta they're calling for double digits next weekend.

I know everybody's getting ansy about getting out on the ice for some ice fishing but be carefull.........................................

Ice thickens as crews continue search for snowmobiler

Updated: Mon Oct. 12 2009 12:53:29

Rescue crews are still searching for a man who fell through the ice while snowmobiling at Sandy Beach Lake early Sunday morning, but RCMP say the cold overnight weather has caused the ice to grow and thicken.
Morinville RCMP and the National Aquatic Search and Rescue Team were called to Sandy Beach Lake alongside Parkland County around 1:30 a.m., but as of Sunday evening there was no sign of the snowmobile or the rider.
RCMP have not said what effect the thickened ice might have on the search, but because the lake is quite shallow, it will likely make it more difficult.
"The frustration right now is that we have a very shallow lake, ice covering it, and a very silty bottom that isn't allowing our searchers to get underneath the ice floe," said Cpl. Shawn French Sunday.
Friends and family remained on shore for much of the day, with one loved one identifying the missing man as 30-year-old Shane Verbeek.
Rescue crews will continue to search throughout the daylight hours.

A representative from the Tri-County Snowmobile Club says it's too early in the season to ride the land vehicles in lake areas, and recommends snowmobilers wait until there is at least five inches of ice before heading out.

Don't laugh guys. I drove by Chip Lake yesterday on the way to hunting and to my surprise it was completely frozen over. Chip is shallow but it is a big chunk of water to be frozen over by mid October. The muskeg was also stiffening up a bit and I drove places that shouldn't have been possible at this time of year.

1 to 2 inches on a lot of the little sloughs and canals around Lethbridge. Measured this afternoon. Most ice on the canal in particular in at least 15 years (Thanksgiving Weekend). Geese are having no problem standing on top. I struggled breaking enough ice to throw out some duck decoys, sore shins.

the area canals are either drained pretty much, or frozen now, I checked one reservoir this afternoon, there is enough ice around the shoreline to ensure no shore fishing anymore. Lots of geese flying around now and a ton of swans too.

I was going to fish the river downstream of the Hat tomorrow till I noticed how much ice was already floating down today.
No way you are gonna fish from shore the way it is.......:cry:

Kinky, wildhorse and petite up by hinton all have about 1/4 inch of ice with a few open spots in between, still put the boat in though just had to jump up and down on the bow to break ice to get where I wanted to go. Managed one fish.
