Does a foam hopper count as a dry pattern? If so, I'm doing up some foam hoppers.

Just a heads-up, Honda . . . I was notified of your PM (with the shipping address) at my email address (as per my forum settings). The PM isn't visible in my PMs though. Basically, PMs appear to be screwed up right now. Also, this thread wasn't visible to me until response #4 . . . and I was actively looking for something relating to the swap.

There be gremlins in the forum.

Oops . . . forgot to ask something. Would a pattern that is strictly for lake use be okay, or would people rather have something a little more universal? I'm wondering where the novelty/practicality boundary lies.

I will tie up some hi-vis parachute Adams. A fly that has been an exceptional producer for me this season.

I haven't firmly decided what I'm doing yet. My fly tying equipment still hasn't arrived (over a month now). If it isn't here by Friday I'm heading over to TFH to pick some up, as I HAVE to get tying. I haven't had a cigarette since Saturday afternoon and I'm very near the breaking point . . . I've chewed all of my finger nails off and the ends of all of my pens. Tying flies will help keep my fingers (and my brain) very busy :)

I'm going to choose the Beacon Beige. many have never hear of it but it is a great producing pattern for all type of trout taking mayfly's. It looks very simple but is very effective. Is thier only one size that it should be tied in or a variety??

Interesting. Never heard of that one but that is the fun of the swap.

Bivisible has been around since at least 1926, and was created by Edward Hewitt. It is a very simple attractor that can cover a wide range of hatches. It works best in faster moving water. It is easy for the angler to see the white hackle, though the brown hackle is what the trout will see best: hence the name.

Will it work in our waters? I dunno. I figure it should. Worth trying :)

I have purchased 12 of them. If I can tye some up as nice as the ones I purchased I'll send the ones I tied out. If not, people will get the ones I purchased (which are very nicely crafted).

Wazzy
10-17-2009, 09:37 AM
If I'm not mistaken, the "bivisible" is similar to the "griffith's gnat?" except with a multicolored hackle. Sounds interesting, should be a good midge imitation.

Good on you for trying to kick the smoking habit...I've heard it's a tough one to kick...fortunately it's one of the few habits I haven't picked up on myself :o Good luck sticking with it!

I'm trying to tie similarly, but they can be tied without the tail.

Until you posted that I was going to see if you wanted me to come over and help you with getting set up to tie these flies.

But after reading this I think I'll change my mind.

Seriously if you need any help just let me know and I'll be glad to help you out.

Sorry for the delay in your question. Had to make a quick trip to Fort Mac. I was thinkin one of those envelopes lined with that bubble stuff. As far as postage goes just slip a $100 bill in the envelope and I will take care of it.:lol::lol::evilgrin:

Sure sounds like we will have some very nice entrys in this swap. Good show everyone.

Funny guy

I shipped the flies I purchased off tonight. I'd recommend people don't do it the way I did, as it cost way too much (had to go parcel, vs letter): around $15 bucks total for postage.

I shipped them in the fly box that they arrived in. I know that the box is thin enough to go letter, as that is how Icky Fly Works sends the flies out. But, I used a padded envelope (Icky uses unpadded envelopes), which made it too thick to go letter. Ugh! If I hadn't used a padded envelope it would have been much cheaper. But then, of course, I had the padded return envelope stuffed in there too, which made it even thicker. :rolleye2:

So, when you're sorting the flies just put mine in the clear plastic fly box, and then into the padded return envelope (which has $7+ postage on it).

Dumb, dumb, dumb. Oh well. At least the flies should make the trip intact.

My flies are turning out a little sloppy at the eye . . . hopefully by the time the next swap rolls around I'll be a little neater :)
