For the last 4 years I have had the privilege of guiding in the land where the fishing is actually good, its called Ontario. Unfortunately this was likely my last summer so I made what I could out of it. It was tough with all the rain, but I managed to set a few new boat records this year.

Summer never really seemed to get going. had a bout aweek of nice weather in the bigeiing of June but after that it rained about 6" over the course of 48 hours and that set the tone for the rest of the summer. The lake was up about 4' above normal when I left and... well you'll see from the pics. Hope you enjoy.

This year was an oddly great season for smallies. This was the first of many on day 2 in camp.

And then the rains came....... Bsically every low lying building we had became flooded out, at the high point the docks were probably under 20" of water. We resorted to fillnig old 45gallon fuel drums with water to try to keep the "fixed docks" from floating away

Some of you may recall hearing about a couple American fisherman that were killed on Lac Seul this summer in a tornado. We had some funnell clouds of our very own to make things interesting that night, thankfully far away from the lodge, but still close enough to see. Its amazing that the wind can make trees snap like toothpicks half way down.

large mouth
perch
crappie (yum!)
walleye
northern
muskie
lakers
(i probably am missing a few)

This May I went for the first time to the Rainy Lake area for a fishing trip, and it was great. Don't knock it till you've tried it.

Boy, the post I read last night about someone always having something negative to say about posted pictures is true. Sorry Fluxcor, I guess I will delete all the fish pictures as you obviously have a plethora of "larger" fish to post and these are obviously not worthy enough for you. Note: I never said anywhere that Ontario has the largest fish.... I just said the fishing was good.

P.S. I assume you have more then a few pics then of Northerns larger then 46", so by all means please post, i'd love to see them!!! I'd also like to add that I live in Alberta and know exactly what the fishing here is like. To compare... well it really doesn't, Its a pretty big claim to also say Alberta has the best trout fishing in the world..... I would say our neighbour to the west ranks above us.

Suicks used to be the ticket out there, but not so much anymore. Bulldawgs seemed to be the most reliable this year, next to that I got quit a few on Grandma's, and big pike/musky spinners. You'd be suprised though how many still got caught on the jig and minnow fishing for walleyes.

what do you expect when you bad mouth alberta on an alberta outdoor forum?:tongue2:

your just begging for it, when you cut down alberta twice on the same thread.

smartin' up.

he wasnt calling down alberta, he was stating a fact. Although there are places in alberta to catch monster jack or big walleye there isnt too many. The fact and you can argue all you want is ontario has the better fishery. Alberta is probably the best place to hunt in north america but when it comes to fishing its not even close.

thanks for the tips Wes.
I'll have to change up the lures a bit next time I'm out...

When we were there I stuck with minnows on Walleye Spinners for the whole week pretty much... threw the odd spinnerbait for some bass....

I reallly hate picture-filled threads like this as it remeinds me of what an incompetent fisherman I am compared to many of you!

Very nice pics Wes!
Whoever says Alberta is better fishing than Ontario obviously hasnt fished Ontario, either that or they are extremely stupid.
Yes, there is lots of very respectable fish/lakes in AB...however compared to Ontario where 99% of the lakes in the province dont even see fishermen. No comparison.
P.S. Who else wants to see a thread by fluxcore with all his monster fish?
