So after my whole ordeal with my cat today, I got to wondering what kinds of pets some of the other members here have.

With all the hunters on here, I'm expecting a lot of dogs...and cats are pretty common as well.

I've got two cats myself, and a handful of less common animals.

The cats

Eastern Collared Lizard (no digits on front feet, taken in as a rescue)

Golden gecko

Chinese water dragon

Leopard gecko

Timor Monitor (taken in as a rescue)

California King Snake (taken in as a rescue)

And a bin full of big fat roaches to feed most of the lizards

So what kinds of animals does everybody else have?

Just 2 dogs for me...

My best friend, a 5 year old border collie, who spent the first 4 years of his life trapped in a semi-truck with me while I drove long-haul. He's get the better part of 1/2 milliion miles on him, and looks no worse for the wear. Needless to say, after that much time, 24/7, in a small space, we are very close...

And my new little "monster", as my wife calls her, an 8 month old Golden Retreiver. She's supposed to be my hunting partner, and training has been slowly progressing...though she's now in the "terrible 2's" stage of her life, :evilgrin:and beleive me, it can't be over soon enough....

Nice :)

Once we're out of the apartment situation my wife would really like us to get a retriever, or maaaaybe a lab :)

We have two Black labs. One is coming up to five years of age and the other just hit one. lol And as manly as I may try to be, my dogs are named Daisy and Lily. Both are great dogs and both love a mouthfull of feathers. RH

You'd get along with my son, Geezle. He and his g/f have: a bearded dragon lizard, a rabbit, a hedgehog, about 9 different snakes (dont know all the types) a pitty (dog) and a crazy cat.

My wife and I just have one black lab and two cats. Wife wants to get a weimaraner in the summer.

Cool, way back when I was a kid I had a hedgehog. I'm pretty sure it was the most unpersonable animal I've ever looked after :scared:

And as for the snake...when I took the Cal King in I had absolutely no interest in keeping snakes...they gave me the heebie jeebies! Now that I've had this little girl for a while though, I've found it to be one of the most interesting animals I have. I wouldn't be surprised if I end up with another one or two in the future...just don't tell my wife!

good thread, nothing exotic here, but we do have a fish named Bob, he is a siamese fighting fish, sucker wont die, going on 5 years. My daughter has a dwarf rabbit, he is actually cute. My son has a Senegal parrot, chats up a storm, wife has a bichon schitzu.

And finally my new puppy arrives this weekend, a black english labrador retriever, so now no one feels left out

I've given up on siamese fighting fish for a while. I like them, but my last two committed suicide (jumped out of the bowl and dried up) while I wasn't home so I'm taking it as a sign.

Guess they don't like me! :o

Can't say I'm a huge fan of birds as pets. My grandma has a some sort of bird...not a parakeet, but one of the more common ones...anyway that thing just squawks all the time and drives me crazy any time I'm there to visit!

Great pics Reeves!

Birds like the ones you have/had I could probably handle. I'd really like to get a place with enough land that I could have some more 'outdoor' kind of animals. :)

edit: and yes that buck absolutely counts!
Like I said about getting a place with some land

Great looking horses Bruceba, that Walker and Paso sure is a looker. I did not get a chance to see the any of the Caballo de Paso when I was in Peru, just photo's and videos. Funny enough, I left Peru on one trip and visited family in Tennessee, where I saw more photo's and videos of the walkers. Both residents were very proud of their breeding. Nice to see some great looking equine's made it into this thread.

Just one pic of my little dude, Bronco. He sleeps, poops and eats. What a gooood puppy!

I'm actually trying to sell the mule & horse as a pair if anyone's interested. The mule doen't care for people much but he does keep coyotes out of the yard.....usually.

We don't have any pets right now, unfortunately.. but, the best I ever had was probably this little critter:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d166/FlybabeYukon/snake.jpg

I *believe* it was a Mexican Milksnake. I wouldn't want any other kind of snake, milksnakes are awesome!

Had a miniature poodle as I was growing up, he was a real azz. Husky/Shepherd cross named Coyote that ended up on a farm (I didn't have the time for her). Appy gelding named Renegade, quarter hoss named Red.

The a flock of various sorts of poultry, which I miss most of all

Hopefully soon.....

I have one I can call my own, if anyone can actually call a cat "owned" ; this is the little bitc...errr darling.
http://i787.photobucket.com/albums/yy156/rollinghillbilly/evilcat.jpg
the partridge are visitors in my yard on occasion
http://i787.photobucket.com/albums/yy156/rollinghillbilly/DSCF1454.jpg
along with other assorted birds. The ponies are sort of adopted, they get more excited to see us than for their owners, but we spoil them rotten. Plus I work at a hay plant so to them I smell like dinner :D
http://i787.photobucket.com/albums/yy156/rollinghillbilly/DSCF4668.jpg
and BTW Geezle, speaking of a bigger place, that house and 2 acre lot just went up for sale, wish I could buy it and just take out the fence in between us :) my one acre just isnt big enough now
I love the pheasants, would love to get some of my own, but Im thinking of getting into raising rabbits next year for meat, and this guy and his family will have to move out of my yard.
http://i787.photobucket.com/albums/yy156/rollinghillbilly/fox1.jpg
cute or not :) 9 kits last year, this year I only saw 3 at once. Opened the front door yesterday morning and his dad was on my front steps, wanted to visit my cat I guess. I dont want to make him mad, he can fly you know, here he is just taking off into the wind in the front yard.
http://i787.photobucket.com/albums/yy156/rollinghillbilly/fox5.jpg
and proof that it does get windy here, some calves getting airborne up the road.

Some nice pics Wayne :)

Just out of curiosity do you have any idea what they want for the place next door? I don't think there'd be enough work for me out that way, but things like this always interest me.

I would love to live somewhere that I get to see wildlife like you get out there

And if you do decide to get the rabbit thing going, I may have to make a trip down there just to hassle you to let me try some. I've heard good things about rabbit meat, but I've never had the opportunity to try it for myself.

they want 140 for it, not bad considering he paid 35 for it 5 years ago and I dont think he put 100 grand worth of work into the house :) Ive had rabbit before, and its actually good, depending on how you cook it you wouldnt guess what kind of meat it is. My mother made rabbit chili out of a bunch I shot one time, and my sister had 3 helpings. Then she made the mistake of asking what it was. When she was done blowing chunks she didnt talk to me for a week, so it was all good!

Compared to what I'm used to seeing here in Edmonton, 140 is CHEAP especially given that it's on 2 acres. It's a pity I probably wouldn't be able to scrounge up enough work siding down there, otherwise after seeing all the pics you post, I'd be all over that place!

And I don't even know what to say about your sister and the rabbit chili

for sure cheap, especially compared to Calgary when I left it! If I could rent the house for 1 grand a month Id talk to the bank, I just want the land LOL property taxes are dirt cheap here too.

Where is that at Wayne? Looks really nice, I love foxes.

How hard are those golden pheasants and such to raise? I been working the boss down to let me raise a turkey for next year and eventually want to raise a few game birds. She hates birds so it's going to be a long process

Looks like a nice area, never been down that way. Is a property north of us for sale really hoping it doesn't sell and the seller gets desperate and we can afford to buy it. Finding out fast can never have too much land!
