View Full Version : Old Mixed Gas

I have a container of mixed gas and oil that's probably from two seasons ago. Is it true that it's not good to use it in your auger if it's this old? Is the problem that the gas and oil are no longer mixed?

Gas will begin to smell like varsol. I've had gas get this way in a few cars and ATV's that were parked too long as well. Had to drain the tanks and get fresh fuel to get them running good. For the amount of money it costs, mix new fuel.

Just split last years between the vehicles. Got some new good winter gas mixed with synthetic oil and stabilizer. Filled the auger tank and put some sea foam in for the first tank. Fired up the auger and she started on the first pull and ran great much better than it was at the end of last year.

Long story but point is don't use the old fuel

What is "sea foam" and why do you use it? Where do I find it?

It's a fuel system cleaner. I did a bit of research and it seems to be pretty highly regarded. You can get it at NAPA

Small engines, especially ice augers can be sensitive to stabilizers and such. Best advice for engine longevity is fresh gas every year and run your augers dry in the spring IMO.
