Back in school (like 20 yrs ago) Tequila gold straight behind a beer (dark beer is best) - can't remember anything after the 2nd one.

Since then, 15 yr Balvennie , any Auschentoshan, really old (30-40 yr) tawny port.

I've probably had too much practise at this.

Also enjoy dark rum. Some of the dark stuff we bought in Cuba was great, but my new favorite is Mount Gay.

I enjoy my beer, but to wind down for the evening, definately a nice rum or whiskey. Don't know enough about scotch, but I'm heading that direction.

Uh, Lagavulin and Bowmore are my faves. I also like Bombay Sapphire. For rum, I'm into Appleton's.

On the non-hard side, it's all about the Syrah, Shiraz or Pinot Noir. My faves are all either Californian, BC, a few Ontarios and a whole lot of South Africans.

On the beer side, it's a whole different thread...

Tastes like black liquorish. The alcohol content is so high that you really dont get the effects of the thujone.

Personally I like Appleton Estates rum, Crystal Skull vodka, Tangle Ridge rye, and Glenlivet. Frozen Malibu is good too, goes down like a slushie but it has to be like - 30*C before it will freeze.

Century Reserve 21 year old whiskey - difficult to find. Canadian Club Classic is almost as good and Gibsons Finest will do when nothing else is available.

X2 on the Gibsons 18 year old..but when when I have extra money burning a hole in my pocket.
The rest of the time its regular gibsons either on ice, with coke, or mixxed half and half with Baileys..with lots of ice.

Any type of beer will suit this guy. GrassHopper with a couiple slices of lemon, or a few years and girlfriends ago I was introduced to Yuengling beer when working on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. It's a tall brunette type of beer..come to think of it so was the girl.

Well I'm not sure who has mentioned fine tequila yet, but I have recently started enjoying this type of drink. Not the cheap "shooting" brands, but a nice sipping type similar to a scotch.

Years ago I tried a couple different kind imported from other parts of the world. Never did the sugar on the spoon thing, just straight. The taste as I can describe it is just bitter, thats really it. It made me us feel mainly drunk but a little goofy.

I used to drink almost all liquor straight or with ice but hard to do that anymore with the cheapest liquor.

My favorite is probably a glass of jameson, bushmills or glenfiddich with some ice.

Love light ales and lagers.

Favorite used to be Yukon Brewing's Yukon Gold or Cranberry Wheat Ale. Now that I'm in MT, I'm a BIG fan of Big Sky Brewing's Summer Honey.

Unfortunately, I got off of contract after they discontinued it for the winter :(

When the hub and I were in Calgary couple weeks ago, tried a couplu other honey ales - Sleeman's for one, Rickard's Honey Brown and Original Joe's Honey Brown. Big Sky is the best, IMO. Of course, it's all subjective :D

since so many people mentioned beers I thought I would chime in with a few of my favorites...

#1.) Newcastle (Dark)
#2.) Smithwicks
#3.) Big Rock McNally's, its a genuinely GOOD strong beer...not something you buy in a 40 ounce and keep in the paper bag to share with your buddies in a back alley

Also, this summer while doing a tour of western canada we met a guy in central alberta who was kind enough to give us a jug of his home brew. I'd had moonshine and other home brews before, but this stuff actually TASTED GREAT.

Matt L.
11-20-2009, 10:45 AM
Where do you find those beers Elohim?

Elohim
11-20-2009, 10:56 AM
Newcastle can be a tough one to get ahold of! Alot of times the shipping from england can be delayed for months! Usually if I see it at the liquor store I will grab as much as I can carry (or afford). But Im pretty sure it would be relatively easy to find in calgary or edmonton. (also, AVOID THE NEWCASTLE WHITE. I REPEAT, AVOID THE NEWCASTLE WHITE...DARK ONLY!)

Smithwicks is pretty easy to get ahold of...just head down to your local liquor store and see about getting them to order you a case if they dont already have some.

And if I'm not mistaken big rock breweries is in alberta, so there should be absolutely no problem finding some McNally's.

If we're adding beer into the mix...there is something I had called Leffe, it's from Belgium and it is probably the smoothest I've ever had. In Europe they sell it in gas stations in litre sized bottles.

On a business trip last yr, at 11 euros a bottle (~$17 CAD), it took the better part of my boss's credit card to drink the bar out of it.

It seems you can't get a hangover from it. Another nice side effect.

I have tried several different kinds, and I guess the reason we have a choice is because everyone's palette is different. i don't care for Patron or any of the other "expensive" products. I like Cuervo Gold on ice or as a shot.
I also really like it when i can buy it for $12.50 in the U.S. instead of $40 here
I don't like mixed drinks.
A friend of mine gave me a bottle of Mescal one time. He had picked it up in Mexico for a couple dollars and it was in a dark green plastic bottle. It was excellent.

I also like Yukon Jack on ice.

Quick lesson on Tequila there is NO difference between silver and gold tequila...it's marketing and caramel color thats it. The only way tequila should have color is from aging in oak barrels, repasado ( rested in oak ) or anejo ( aged in oak )

I have to chime in here:)

I can't drink more than a couple of beers in one sitting, I am allergic to something in it:sick:. But whan I do I enjoy a cool bottle of STANDARD imported from Manitoba..:D

But my posion of choice and can keep down:sick: is Whisky, I have in the fridge now a bottle of Canadian Club, good ole bottle of 83, and when I am feeling a little frisky I pull out the bottle of 40 creek.

Lots of Yankees I know rave about the Canadian Club. I tell them nobody in Canada drinks it, and then follow up with this joke:
A baby seal walks into a bar, and the barkeeper says, "What will you have?". The baby seal goes, "Anything but a Canadian Club".

badabumbump. I never said it was a good joke

you're all making me thirsty and its only 8:00 am. can't even enjoy my coffee anymore. capn morgan is pretty good but he beats the s#!t out of me every time we get together. sailor jerry is my new fave for rum, we get along fine. any of the bacardi family is pretty user-friendly, but my wife doesn't like it so it kinda got phased out. beers: moosehead, boh, pil, in that order. they are all just like a sore dick; you can't beat em;)
