Best bet is to be there between 0600 and 0615. Check in, see the pics from the previous hunts and drill the fish & wildlife officers where the big ones are still hiding. Good luck

Thanks, dont know why i cant remember, its only my 6th time there.:)
Any snow there yet, i thought i saw a few posts with pictures from the ML season with someone posing with a deer in their T-shirt???
I am planning on driving up early in the morning and get there a bit early. Anyone know how long it takes to get there from Sherwood Park by chance?
I also wonder if deboneing your deer in the field is allowed? I think it would be easier than dragging it for miles. I don't suppose you are allowed to drive other than the trails and I was thinking of a backpack and deboneing the thing when I kill one. What do you guys usually do?

Good question Nube. I know that there are ( or never used to be restrictions) on driving off road on the West chunk of HWY #41 and on the East side ( Annex) they've restricted it to specific roads and trails. I beleive you can though drive the Annex to retreive you game???
However, i always bring my buddy, he may be short and small, but he's all pack-mule:lol:
for $10.00 I could rent him out.

You can drive anywhere in the base to retrieve downed game, even the walk in areas.
If you are in a (walk only area) you have to case your rifle, drive directly to your downed game, load it and drive straight out.If for some reason you cant drive right to it there are lots of people that are hunting that I am sure would give you a hand.
Not many people debone but if you are keeping the deer then you can do what you want with it.You just have to follow there procedures for caping out or cutting the horns out of the skull as they want every head for testing..
It takes roughly 2 hours from Sherwood park to Wainwright.. 182 km..
Good to know guys. Deer Hunter I will give you a call.
Briefing is 6:45 but be there early to sign waivers and check out maps....and pics of past hunts! Recommend to you guys, truck hunting and sticking to the roads. It would help my game plan out! Good luck and we'll see you tommorrow.

The briefing is at 0700 as BB stated. I was there at 0630 on Monday morning and the place was already packed, so get there early!
DJ240- If you're coming in from the West on hwy 14, take your first right when you hit the edge of the town (there's a little green sign that's hard to miss that says Camp Wainwright), follow the road onto the base and there will be signs to direct you to the check-in station.
Nube-- 2 hours to get here.

Sorry I messed up in my post. There are some walk in zones on the west side of the base that you cant drive in at all due to it has some type of stink weed in there that they dont want spread.
