I made this with a door stopper, and a small piece of dowel for the 'rod' The board just drilled a 1 inch hole and the main board coming up holding the reel is from a broom.

This works great for walleye. you can watch the light bites it is very easy to pull down and It works amazing. I was having trouble getting the lite biting mid winter walleyes and remembered using this with my dad 20 years ago. There is very little resistance and the reel has the rattles in it so you can hear it if something hits it hard when you are distracted elsewhere.

Nice set-up. I've seen these before and was told they work well. Where did you get the reel from?

Great Idea - thanks for sharing. How did you attach the "rod" to the door stopper?

Very cool design indeed. Canuck tire had the reels, saw them there tonight. What size is the dowel used for the rod? 1/4" ?

They look like they'd work good but they dont look very portable.

THe 'Rod" is 1/4 inch dowel it is pushed through the door stopper which has piece of surgical tube to keep it in place. To keep the dowel from sliding all the way through I attached a piece of Surgical tube on the other end. Also put surgical tube on the tip of the dowel to keep it from splitting. the base I just used generic piece of wood. I bought the reels at Walmart 2 for 5 bucks. Base is not required I just found it easier to have piece of wood instead of sticking the set up in a pile of ice.
