what are brass monkeys? and why are they outside?

seahawkfisher
12-13-2009, 11:40 AM
well; technically, they are the brass fittings on the side of an old-style battleship cannon that would feed the cannonball into the cannon. in times of yore, twas said to officially be cold when the brass would get so cold that it would shrink. It would be cold enough to freeze the "balls" off a brass monkey
cheers

with this cold spell to thicken the ice and keep people home, then the above zero temps next weekend, I think the lakes will be tent cities! going to be a whole lotta fishing going on! :D
Maybe we should have a forum gathering at PCR or something, a mini burbot derby or something.

Seriously? What was the temp?

The Jeep was reading -35 when I headed out this morning, but it usually reads a couple degrees warm, so it may have been closer to -37 but I can't verify that.
