Bought a couple of ice fishing rods on sale from Princess Auto a few months back. They have a battery in the handle that you twist to actuate the laser to illuminate the rod internally.

Has anyone used these before?

Any feedback good or bad appreciated.

Gimmick?

Hoping to try them out Monday at PCR

I saw those in the catalogue, Gimmick for sure, but they might be fun while you nightfish for burbot.

I remember looking at those rods in the store...pretty sure it's mostly a gimmick. The rod seemed pretty stiff IIRC so it might be okay for pike/burbot, but the reel (and pre spooled line) are a little more questionable.

Give it a shot and let us know how you like it :)

Was going to try originally at Clear, but on closer inspection I think it would disintegrate with a good pike on it. So PCR it is.

might disintegrate there too, theres pike in there well over 20 pounds :D some say over 30. chances you have to take, what a way to go!!!

I say take it to Clear and give it the 'practical test'

I did not know that. I have targeted Pike there in the summer at the far far North end a few km north of bridge, but only ever seen hammer handles.

I had one grab my walleye this summer, at least 20 pounds. heard from a 30 year commercial fisherman that he saw one at the dock that was easily 30. Next time I might have more than 4 pound test on, or at least fresher line.

No worries Drano. I lived 1/2 hour from Stavely for 22 years. I promise I won't overfish it. Your secret is safe.lol

hahaha. when i first started reading this i thought the exact same thing in my head.

I wouldnt care if it was dark at the tip so long as it made the sweet WHOOOMP noise that all the other light sabres make.........

Yes the rods I build do utilize a fiberglass rod blanks and I can work on a youtube video for you being video would explain the bite indication of my product better then a verbal explanation.

I'm doing my best to not spam this forum, I try to conduct an ethical business unlike my infringer.

I bought a couple of these from the "surplus" bin for $5 i thought it could be fun... neither one lit up... 1 reel didn't work for more than 2 min... and the other rod did disintegrate / evaporate / explode when a pike grabbed it...

But for $5 bucks it was a cheap lesson learned

I hope you have better luck with your toys

after seeing the pics they look to be a little too swanky for on top a birthday cake. they would be really elegant CB antennas on my sisters truck though. fairly stiff action, stand up to hiway speeds?
