Not sure about cabins but there are lots of good hotels in Cold Lake/Grand Centre. Very close to the lake. Good drive on at Provincial Park SE of Town. I have not seen very many shanties where we fish. Most are using portables. Usually jigging over very deep water so you seldom see fish. A flasher is a good idea. If it's nice out you just sit on a pail or the truck seat.

Just an hint. Go and buy the biggest white tube jigs you can find. Usually tipped with a chunk of herring or anchovie.

I don't think you can rent a cabin unless you know a military person posted to Cold Lake. The military has cabins that they rent to the military and there families. Hotels are ok. The lake isn't far away from Cold Lake (south) and of course right across the street in CL (North). Fishing been really good especially if you use electronics. In front of the Marina or French Bay (near the ski hill) are both producing quality Trout.
Hope to see you on the lake.
Good Luck

no shack rentals; but a portable with a heater is a good idea.

There is a hotel across the road from the Marina in Cold lake.
Very old hotel and one of the cheepest
Thats where we stay when laker ice fishing.
Skidoos are driven from this hotel to the lake.

Its called Dockside Inn Cold lake ,Ph (780) 639-3030
You can also goggle it.They give you info on prices and pictures of the hotel.

Last year there was a crowd ice fishing about 1000 yards out in front of the town boat launch and anouther croud about 1-2 miles out father and to the right . To get to the futher crowd, if you do not have a skidoo ,you have to go to the provincal campground boat launch and fallow the truck tail out.
Not sure if the ice is thick enough yet to drive on.
If you ever need a weekend partner let me know.
Ps
I was presented the provincial 2008 trophy for largest laker taken and it came from Cold lake....

The ice is 11 to 14 inches in most areas. I've driving on the ice for 10 days now. Google "cold lake motels" and the phone numbers will appear beside their names. What mode of transport are you using on the ice? This will depend on where you can fish. There is broken ice chunks in areas that have refroze and make it impassable by truck (risk of cutting side wall of your tires)
