My wife and I had a great day at Coal Lake on Sunday. Put the canoe in at about 8:30 headed home at about 2:30. Ended up with 44 pike (22 each). Lots of fun. Some big guys, some little, some inbetween. We caught pretty steady all day long, both trolling and casting.

All catch and release. They all swam away to be caught another day.

Not sure what they were, but fish were rising and jumping out of the water all day long.

My wife caught the big one of the day.

Another decent guy my wife caught.

Here's one of my big guys coming to the canoe.

Take Highway 2 south from Edmonton. Turn on 2A at the last Leduc overpass (towards Millet/Wetaskiwin). About 10 minutes down 2A (after Kavanugh, but before Millet) turn left on 616. About 5 minutes down.

As I live in Leduc, I'm there in under 20 minutes. Great for a quick evening of ice fishing in the winter.

It can get pretty busy. Even with a few boats floating around and fishing there are people tubing, jet skis, etc. very close by.

Fishing from shore is BAAAAD. Very weedy, and you need to get out a ways to be clear from constant snags.

See ya

Ace....nice gators! I have looked at that lake many times from a plane and wondered if there was anything in there worth fishing for....I guess so. Can you put gas powered boats in there or is it canoe power only?

Any boat can go on the lake and there is no speed limit. Little boats (like my canoe) need to be careful as people waterski right where people are fishing....:mad3:

Or if you are coming from the south it is five miles east of Wetaskiwin. You will pass right by the campground and boat lanch on highway 13.
5 mins from Wetaskiwin or 15 mins from Camrose

Nice work Ace. What were you using?

Its funny the amount of traffic Coal is getting in the last couple of years. It used to be a little secret "Goldmine". It wasnt that long ago, you would seldom see one Boat out there pulling a Skier/Boarder, now the amount of them usually out number the Fishing Boats. The narrowness of the Lake coupled with the amount of "Speed" Boats, would make Fishing from a Small Boat or Canoe frustrating.

Its funtime in the early Spring, take your Boat (has to be small), and weave in & out through the maze of Cattails, throwing surface Cranks. Its mostly always calm in there, and the action is explosive!
