Would be a help if we know where you live and where you want to fish. Otherwise, my answer is northern sask.

Utikama use to have some monster perch. I am pretty sure they have netted it this year.
I have had conflicting reports that there has been some winterkill there in the last 2 years.
The perch are getting tougher to find every year in AB. You can catch a lot of little guys close to Edmonton. Try some of the Sask. lakes if you have a long weekend. You won't regret it.
Good luck.:)

I think Utikama kills partially almost every year (so shallow).. probably some worse than others. It also seems to rebound pretty well though. Another lake I want to get to this season. :)

Wulfespirit, please send me a PM when you are heading out. I would love to meet you and try Utikama again. It is hard for me to get away due to hockey coaching commitments.

Will do - I always like to have at least two vehicles heading up that way.

Ya i did Utik last week, got my limit of walleye(nothing big) in about 30 min, three days later went back and fished the exact same hole's and nothing. It was like i was at a totally different lake. That has happened to me before there numerous times, Can't beleive how hit & miss this lake is.
Oh and no perch luck either

I believe the 'locals' net it hard every year.

Watch out for netting holes. They have a history of not being staked.
About 8 years ago a friend had his front axle and componets torn out by hitting an unmarked net location in his 4x4. If you camp up there near the tower leave a full bottle of rye at the campsite to help guard your gear.
Cheers :D

yep and quite often they leave small fish on the ice. i have seen this 3 times now. they tell me that it is ileagal to waste game even if you are a "unrestricted unlicenced fisherman"
i felt like taking all the frozen fish off the ice home with me.... but you know what would have happened. i would get checked with a couple short pike and a bunch of whites with net marks. then i would be the dummy hey!
what a waste

Even in winterkill years Utikama produces well. Just a hint, but when oxygen levels are down, the fish move very quickly. If you find a school of walleye, you may have to keep moving every 1/2 hour or so one way or the other down the shoreline to keep up with them. They are still there though, even with the netting. Perch I have always found nearer the centre hump, or the far island. They are harder to find, but if you find them, they are usually little footballs.
A word of caution though, the closer you get to Utikamasis on Utikima, the better the chance of running into problems with the locals.. Pot shots at vehicles are NOT uncommon...
