I tried Hastings Lake for perch once and could not see 2ft down the hole because of all the shrimp.

you may want to go to T&T Supermarket. In the frozen fish aisles they have large smelts, sardines, and also fresh water shrimp that are just a bit bigger than the ones in the lakes. They work great, and are very cheap.
PS You may want to pick up some really cheap squid there, or the mixed seafood packages... I have had great luck with small pieces most of the stuff. Amazing how hard they hit the little squid legs, as they have the smell and dancee around on the hook like a small worm.

does it really make that much of a differance fishing when there is FWshrimp activity??? iv always woundered that in the back of my head. and while im asking qeustions, also, when the minnows start swiming down you hole, would fishing for certain spieces pick up or die down being a sing there is no fish in the area or somthing????

They make good bait for perch and trout.
