I understand that you need a permit from the Stoney band office to fish Chiniki - but I've never heard of anyone being successful in getting one.

Even driving on the reserve (other than on the main highways) without band permission is not permitted. Years ago I was just wandering the backroads taking photographs and was stopped and escorted off the reserve.

I know a couple of guys who have access from land owners and ive heard good things and seen better pictures. But like everyone says you gotta know someone to get on there, and the fishing is slow right now I hear.

I have a native friend who took me fishing there once a couple years ago. Caught a 25" rainbow on a bead-headed leech. Gorgeous fish too, tons of color.

Chiniki lake is a nice lake with browns and suckers. Fishing is good ive caught meany using spoons spinners bait (worms.shrimp.powerbait) if you are looking for bigger guy usally cast far and wait. (gulpbait american pie sent) ive only done catch and release but most people keep what ever they catch. I dont think its stocked, they thrive there. Could be wrong. Has for public fishing i could ask and find out for those who are intrusted.
