Does anyone have a recent update about Newell conditions? We are heading there from Calgary this week and are wondering about whether we can drive on at the Kinbrook Island boat launch? Or is there somewhere better? Will a 2WD pickup get us on and off the lake? Also, does anyone know the ice thickness... was thinking about bringing my 14 foot travel trailer on the ice (about 2000 pounds). Any help would be great as we have never ice fished at Newell. Cheers.

From what I have been told the last about week and a half of wind out of the west we have had around here has torn up some of the ice pretty good, I myself am still pretty iffy on just driving my truck on the ice anywhere let alone a trailer but thats just my $.02. Better safe than sorry.

Wow, 2 feet should be plenty thick for the truck and trailer. Was it pretty rough up top? Had it heaved and created peaks from the wind?

I think we're looking to drive on around kinbrook unless there's a better place?

I was next door to Newell so it should be the same. Newell might be a bit rougher, so maybe someone else fished it this weekend and could let you know.

I wasn't out this weekend, but we were a week ago. Ice was 20-22". Seemed like very solid ice. A little wind blown on top. We drove out, only about 20-30ft or so (were in a bay and didn't have to go far). Two 3/4ton GMC beside each other and everything was fine. Truck and trailer cant be much different, but that's up to you. I'm always leery just with a truck.

Thanks for the feedback. Where are you guys driving on to Newell? Is Kinbrook the best place? It's the only one I know.
