Hmm. Is that Mr. Christie's "Lake X" or a different "Lake X?"

If it is a different one, perhaps you could label it "Lake D" . . . for "Dr. D" and "double header." :D

I'm assuming they are pike but mind telling us what 27.5 and 29.6 are (units) and of what species. Is it 29.6 inch walleye or 27.5 cm perch or what!

why? with all the thread trashers lately why should anyone share their exact spots? why cant people just post about their good fortune and that be that? You cant find fish on your own? and if anyone wants to fish my lake X I am always happy to take them there in person, but Im not posting the location in public.

Trying to put the pics up off the iPhone all day will try again when I get home after fishing

It might be easier using a Flickr account. I'm sure the iPhone must have an app for that, as my Blackberry does. If you get some great shots while you're out at a lake, you could upload them to Flickr using the app and then attach them to the message.

It is really easy to uploads pics from my Blackberry.

Sorry the fish are pike and it was pounds. 27 inches would be bait

 We had a 27" pike for dinner last night. It is actually a really good size for our family: we all get a good sized portion, and there aren't any leftovers (which always spoil sitting in our fridge).

I hate lake X or lake D threads really pointless especially without pictures

A great example to all of those out there firstly, the fun is in the catching not the keeping and secondly, how to properly handle big fish quickly and gently for releasing. Nice job.

Ok well now this post has turned into something I don't care if people post where they catch fish, The point was the thread was pointless saying that you caught two fish 10 mins apart

I caught a 30lb and a 35 lb fish 10 mins apart that was cool :ashamed::rolleyes:

Point is either take some time to post a story of somesort or some pictures atleast clasify the type of fish or what measurement you are using pounds kg inches centimeters.

When I first read the post there was nothing to be shared didnt even say type of fish so with no content it was pointless now with measurements and fish type noted and now with pictures it turned into one hell of a post of some great fish.

Oh yeah and the 30lb and 35lb fish were chinook salmon taken on Ocean X:tongue2:

Tell me Shelly what would have the value of this post been if it had been left at the original post ...Since I was being such a whiner and all:wave:

You could have simply taken a little bit of pleasure in knowing that a fellow angler was having a good day on the ice.

You could also have taken a little bit of pleasure in knowing that angler was interested in the stories others had to share about similar events, and that he wasn't out to hog all of the glory for himself.

For sure, southern alberta, just don't want to be specific. I've told guys about a lot of lakes and good fishing spots and the next time I went there we were elbow to elbow. There are big fish in most of southern alberta lakes, its all about location location location.

Did he have trouble turning it in to the hole or did they not fit in the hole if they didn't fit in the hole most likely new Alberta record seen some big fish (30-36lbs) come out of 10 inch holes with not much trouble

I'm not sure. Captain Ahab will have to clarify when he's done out there today. I was left with the impression they didn't fit in the hole, but it could have been a problem with turning them. He uses an 8" hand auger, but I think the holes usually come out closer to 9".

I don't think he's seen Moby yet today. I was hoping to get some video . . . but the boys and I are stuck at home popping Gravol like candy (and it isn't working) :(

I was using a 9 inch hole drilled by a friend, I did get her head up into the hole, but couldnt squeeze the body in far enough to try and grab her. she broke off before I could try and pop her thru. No way was I sticking my hand in that mouth!!!!!! broke the line I had her on, 38 pound tip up line, the first one I caught broke my 30 pound fireline and I didnt have time to tie on another hook, (or the motor skills) shaking like a leaf:lol: so I grabbed Steves tip up he was going to put in, and got her to take it. she was obviously drawn over by the commotion from the first fish, caught them in holes in my tent 3 feet apart about 5 minutes apart. used up all my pike luck for the week right there :D First one was over 20 , Ive caught a 20 pounder and it was bigger. Sure beat working that day!

Gonna take one hell of alot bigger than a 20 pounder to not fit up through a 9" hole...sounds like one of those "it grew another 20 lbs as it broke the line stories"

Some guys would catch bigger fish if they spent more time fishing than telling every one else what they did or did not see at least he talks about his fishing trip and gets your hopes up for the monster Y can't everyone just keep their bad comments to themselves my mother taught me if you have nothing good to say don't say nothing at all

one eles what they did or did not do

 While you're not one to falsify fish stories . . . I think you may exaggerate a little when it comes to stories about your ex-wife ;)

I've wondered this at times too. I suppose some people just find a story like Wayne's threatening, which results in the childish stamping of feet and the demand for photos (or the outright refusal to accept the story as truth).

I've come to the conclusion that it isn't their fault: they're just desperately trying to get the approval of their peers, as they didn't get the approval they needed from mom and dad as tots. They figure that to get that approval, they'll need a big catch with lots of proof.

They don't want to see that approval given to someone else . . . especially if there aren't at least some photos involved. But, of course, if there are photos involved 90% of those photos will be disputed for some reason or another. Even video will be cited a "set-up."

Really, it isn't their fault they're so damaged. Those of us with more confidence should learn to be more patient with them. An occasional pat on the head might help boost their confidence, too. :)

Now, none of this is directed at Hunter49. He simply didn't read the story correctly, and this is what caused him to question it. He missed the distinction between the first one (the 20+ pounder), and the second one (the monster that didn't fit in the hole). Oops. Unfortunate, but understandable.

WOW. Where does a guy go to get fish like that in Alberta?!?!

I've been fishing Northern Alberta for a long time now and i've never come across gators like that.. 2 25+ pounders in 10 minutes.... 4 tip ups with 19-27 pounders... i'm jealous.

Clearly my fishing skills are subpar.

Southern Alberta just a little luck and some time and a guy can get a few big ones we only break 25 lbs 4-6 times an ice season but seeing big girls like that never gets old

Just using basic tip-ups with 6-8 inch herring?

You find the big ones like the deepest areas of the lake?

Dr D Im hoping to run into you at the Badger derby, I want to shake your hand. Not many people who could stuff one of those old girls back down the hole and just be happy with the memories and the pictures. :D
BTW I hear rumours of a 50 pound pike in Southern Alberta, now if that doesnt give you a reason for braving the cold nothing will

I also have it on good authority that there has been several fish netted and released during studies between 45 and 59 pounds. Let's hope we can find them during a durby!

Very impressive fish! Just throwing this out there, I heard there have been a couple 27 pound pike caught at snipe lake this year. From the north to the south this province is proving itself to be an excellent fishery for those who invest the time and hard work, thanks to some of those tedious rules and regs and also to more angler education on conservation. Great posts.
