Anyone have success calling Mulies? I just purchased a call(that sounds alot like my whitetail calls) and thought I would give it a go.

I've had lots of luck calling does with a predator and calf elk call but not much luck on bucks.

I have calls that work well on mulies. Calls them into bow range. These are custom made calls, not available in stores.:D

Wow. This thread makes me feel LESS crazy! Last year bowhunting (new to archery), I blew a predator distress call on stand to call a coyote in closer. The coyote ran away, and about 8 mulie does came charging in my direction (125yards) until the wind changed up on me. I just thought that something had spooked them from behind, but always wondered if it was the call that induced that response. That was the SECOND strangest thing I saw on that property that year!:ashamed:

Mulke deer does, according to Dr. Val Geist, will "mob " a coyote regularly to defend their young.
I've never had much luck ratling bucks in, although I have done a few times, but grunting will sometimes produce better results.
Does come into a grunt tube often as well......

Oddly enough just this weekend on wild I watch a sequnce where they rattled in muledeer.
I have yet to bag a Mule doe using a call but I have been close. At this point I only have had negative responses from bucks to grunt calls.
A buddy figure out of you use the fawn distress during the rut that any does you pull in can have buck trailing them which ends up drawing them in too.

I use my grunt tube in Sept/Oct for mulies when bowhunting.....when they are in bachelor groups it seems to work more often than not.....at least to close that bit of distance I find they usually get curious enough.....
Does always seem to be easy to call into bow range....hell I've called em out of the window of my truck and they've come runnin to the road.....lol

Tried it many times in the past...doesn't work so I just leave the calls at home, I figure why draw attention to your position?? Doesn't make sense to me

one or two 'mews' sound directed at the ground from a pred call will stand'm up or stop them from retreating.
it may pull a buck out of the gully or bush, at least to the edge of it, but they lose interest a lot faster. occasionally they just are following the does if the rut is on....
i did this out in the mountains and a doe stood up not 30 yards from behind a bush that looked no bigger than a five gallon pail...
where we are having lunch and talking on a cutline, after we had been there for 10 mins.
it works but dont over do one area

Gerry...I found it works when a deer has kinda half-busted ya....like when a little buck stands up in the middle of a stock and is starin ya down......thats about the only time I use it on the prairies...

One year all that I could scare up rattling were small Mulie bucks. I was actually rattling with Mulie antlers and have never done so again. Redfrgo, i tried to buy one of those calls off you at the gunshow but you were not at your booth, instead there was this huge pile of burlap rags in a chair??

I've used the" eastman "deer talker with a little bit of success. During the rut I spotted a heard of mulie does and called them in close, that brought out the buck in the bush and my partner got him. It's a fawn distress call that also works great with pedators as well.

Calling game is one of the most enjoyable, exciting and often productive methods I use. When I am deer hunting I always keep a call or two in easy reach. If I spook some deer I'll give a few calls right away and most often will stop them and calm them down. If a buck crosses a line in front of me and I don't get a shot or a good look, I'll get set up and call. Most often they will stick their heads out to have a look. Sometimes they come running.
I have used the "Eastman" Deer Talk call to bring in mule deer does and bucks and a pair of wolves.
