Finally took some video of my 8" electric auger in action in about 30" of ice. This is with the truck not running. It goes a bit faster if the truck is running as the voltage is up a bit. That's Jesse on the auger drilling for big Wabamun pike. Click on the video thumbnail.

Ken, maybe you could add to this as well.

Pros
-ultra reliable.
-no tuning, adjustments, or maintenance.
-no gas or oil mess or smell.
-quiet
-smooth and easy to use.
-can be easily converted to armstrong handle with 2 bolts.

Cons
-must have a truck or quad or a 12V battery with you.
-expensive unless your a do it yourselfer like Ken and me.
-mine is a bit on the heavy side.

Unit is home made, see original post.

Try loading Adobe Flash Player for your browser. Photobucket uses flash for their videos.

BTW, I'll tell Jesse that you think he is one hell of a beast. He will take that as a compliment. :)

-ultra reliable.

-quiet

-electric motor will likely outlive several generations of fishermen
-far cheaper initially, no upkeep
-never have to pull a rope, hence no start mechanism failure
-start every single time you push the button
-the right motor will run off a small gelcell battery or quad/sled battery

Cons
-must have a truck or quad or a 12V battery with you.
-expensive unless your a do it yourselfer like Ken and me.
-mine is a bit on the heavy side.

-everyone wants to use it
-10" single blade chipper units require more rpm than torque, better suited to gas units
-repairs may require specific parts that can not be bought, have to be made by manufacturer

Unit is home made, see original post.

added above.
