So my regular fishing partner can't get ou this weekend and want to get out one last time I have truck and all the gear but no one to share the morning with. I am in Calgary and would have to be back in town by 2pm. If anyone wants to come along let me know. Also at a loss as to where to go so if you have any ideas let me know. I am willing to drive for a max of 2 hours but less drive time means more fish time.

I'm up for fishing with new people. I will travel as far south as Calgary (live in Edmonton). I like to fish the eastern slopes. I am most intersted in trout fishing. I fly fish (sort-of) and also shore-cast. Unfortunately have no boat, but do have a portable down rigger (go figure). Would love to fish Cold Lake (but no boat), since lakers are as close to fishing Chinook as I can get here in Alberta (grew up in B.C.). Have lots of gear and plenty of stories. Also if you need someone to help you find a good spot in B.C. salt water I can help. I have many suggestions.

We fished Blood Indian resevoir out of a boat on this Sat from 10:45 to 15:00 we had 6 strikes and landed 4 fish in the 11" to 14" range. There was only 1 other boat on the lake and a dozen or so people fishing off the shore around the lake. Hardly anyone camping either. I was in the Fishin Hole on Fri the board said it was good for fishing and had been stocked on Apr 15th.

It's fine. I didn't end up going there anyways because I decide to fish in a current instead. It turned out awesome because I caught 12 walleye and a nice big rainbow. I made a post about it.

I was an accomplished fly fisherman, but all my rods and gear fly and spinncast alike has disapeared over the years. I would like to get back into it, but fishing in alberta is a whole new ball game. I dont have any fisherman friends, and the guys I know who do arent willing to hold my hand. Where can I learn how to catch the new species here and find some no boat acces fishing for me and the missus close to edm? Preferably where everybody isnt going to laugh at us :sSc_hiding:

Just to give heads up notice,I go fishing every weekend in the Edmonton Area.My boat a 19 ft baylinner and truck eat alot of gas along with other exspences ,prop damage insurance etc. I charge by the hour now.

Most guides charge $100. an hour per person.

I charge $20.00 hr. for the first person and $10 for every other.....Very cheep !

Chestermere is mainly pike....i've heard of trout being caught at the south end by the canal but never seen one...and perch are supposedly in there but again never seen them.......was thinking of going to carburn but I dont think the bus gets all that close to it

umm yeah I said Carburn......first pond from the parking lots has nothing, middle pond has pike and perch and the third one down by glenmore seems to have quite an assortment....I was told there's a big school of whitefish in that pond but I've never fished it.

Good thread. I am in Calgary, went to Bow River yesterday to find it unfishable (at least for me). I am curious on all the local area lakes/ponds that are accessible. Will be moving the family up in July (McKenzie Lakes), lease comes with lake access. However, I am looking for alternative spots to take my 10 year old boys. At the moment we don't have a boat (might have to fix that), as we are leaving our boat behind in Texas for the duration of our 2-3 year assignment.

Due to an alinement of the planets (kids with ex, wife away with her kids), I can finally get away for my very first flyfishing trip on the Bow River on Wednesday 7 July. PCR will be fine this weekend. There is really no bad time of year to fish pcr. Those fish have a really low food source so they have the feed bags strapped on all the time. I have never been to that lake and had a bad day. I am use to having to hunt the eyes down so heading there gets boring if you are a really competitive fisherman looking for bigger fish. Fun place to get people into fish that don't fish very often though.

hey there im new to calgary. I've tried the bow, glenmore reservoir, carburn park and spruce meadows pond and havent had a bite. I'm also new to fishing so d'ont really now what im doing. Hi Pat head out to Pine Coulee Resovoir, head south out of calgary on the number 2 to stavely turn right at the wrought iron sign saying welcome to stavely I think its hwy 527 head west untill you go over the bridge then about 600 meters after hang a left not the gravel road but the paved road then you will come to a sign with camping and boating,. there is a dock there great to fish off I hear lots of peopole catching 100-200 a day It's C&R only but great fishing.
Just remember, the dock is for boats so work together with them, reel in when somebody wants to dock, it's a commom thing to see boaters and guys fishing on the fock to start fighting about the dock. and who belongs on it. Just use common sense.

I live SW of Rocky Mountain House. Close to Mitchell Lake & Struble Lake and only an hour from Peppers Lake. I have been laid up with a back injury so I am cooped up a lot. My wife works all week in Rocky.
I have some fishing tackle but no tent olf auger. I'd like to try Mitchell Lake.
I read the stocking report and it says that for at least two years they have put Brown Trout in it along with Rainbows. The Browns were 15cm when they were released both years. I wonder how big they'd be now? They airate the lake too.

I was going to go to Peppers Lake tomorrow but I have decided on
Monday. On Sundays the lakes are over run with people. I kinda like
it when it's not too crowded. My old fishing buddy who lives right on
Struble Lake was at Peppers on Thursday. He & his partner caught their
ten. They were in the 15-17" size. Nice Brookies. He claims that there are some 22-24" ones in there too.
I don't know where you live. I am assuming it's Calgary. If that's right thedn
it's quite a drive for you. I am only an hour away. I live in the Cow Lake
area.
Maybe we can get together sometime. At present I am fishing by myself.

I am sorry I didn't reply to your last message. You said the browns bite the best at the West side of Mitchell. I drove over there a week or so ago but there was noone fishing or had been. Someon had walked out a ways on foot.
With the airating going on in the middle I wonder if it is save if one gets far enough away from the open water?
I haven' been over there lately. Quite a bit of activity at Strubble. They are driving on the ice.
Still want to get to Peppers. A friend of mine has caught his five twice now.
15 - 18" nice fish.
Later this winter I'm going to Abraham Lake. Last year a friend caught quite a few Lakers 12 18 lbs.

hello im looking for someone to take me out and show me some winter trout fishing lakes within 3 hours of edmonton i have my own jigging rod and some lines but no auger or hut. if you have a 4x4 i can pitch in for gas and bring the lunch. If possible id like to get out before dec 31st 2010 if anyone has the time. I used to fish before i came to alberta to work 5 years ago and would like to get back into it. I would like to learn the technique that is used out here with the barbless hooks on tip ups and what works bait wise as i used live bait where i lived (was legal there).

haha some hooks would be a good thing as well as pliers, bait (maggots, minnows),warm clothing you dont really need a shelter unless its really cold or your sight fishing for whitefish i dont have a shelter and ive iced close to 100 walleye this winter. food and drink is important to bring, sun screen if its sunny out, and in regards to a auger i think you may be able to pick a hand one up a canaidian tire or walmart for under 100$ pm bubbles if you like and i can give you a more detailed list of gear
